Why Do We Suck At Raiding So Much?

European guilds consistently beat us out in world first races, even though we get 1 day of raiding before everyone else. Is it something in the water?

As someone that works for a German company. I can confidently say that Europeans work about one month a year and have lots of free time to play WoW :grin:

Culture. In America, our lives revolve around working a lot of hours. For some reason, we pride ourselves in this. We don’t give ourselves much time to get better as a community because most people in the community cannot devote the time.

NA certainly doesn’t suck at raiding.

Don’t look at it as a loss, but opportunity. This race has helped put WoW into a much needed positive spotlight and reinvigorated people to participate in higher difficulty raiding. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are even more NA guilds that look to devote more effort into achieving world ranking.

It’s all good.

Does this really apply when comparing hardcore raiders though? These guys all devote obscene amounts of time into the game.

I was in Vodka as a casual friend of a hardcore raider during WotLK. They were having to pay their main tank’s rent because he couldn’t afford to pay it because of the raiding hours and less work hours. They all chipped in to cover it. Everyone else was very young, with a few people being born into wealth or accumulated wealth/careers that allowed lots of vacation time.

The competition gaming scene has been around for a bit longer in the EU. We only recently started to see it as a social norm to take gaming this serious. As such, many young gamers over there see it as a legit career path and work on it longer/harder than American’s have up to this point.

We don’t do good, we do passable. America isn’t number one in anything besides type 2 diabetes and voting in representatives to not represent us.

Plenty of them have jobs.

They just have on average double the vacation time than is standard in the US and can blow a week twice a year on a new tier.

Erm…considering an American guild was #2, I wouldn’t call that sucking…

The only way you could say NA suckeed was if there was like one NA hguild out of the 26th on Jaina and we were way behind. Which was not the case.

Just got edged out by a great team. Just see it as a challenge to overcome :slight_smile:

That isn’t all of America, thats a very small few of them. We don’t excel at anything. Not education, health care, gaming, manufacturing, etc.
