Developers’ note: The first two bosses of the dungeon were frequently being skipped in lower-difficulty dungeons, typically by groups who were trying to earn Renown much faster than intended. To improve players’ Renown earnings, we’ve also added a chance for Renown to be earned by completing layers in Torghast (see hotfix below).
Why do the developers do things like this? Renown isn’t some infinitely farmable power progression. Players are just trying to get alts up to speed when they have time, and at least they were engaging with other players to do so. I don’t understand why the devs think this needs curbed. There is literally nothing here being exploited. This is just another example in a sea of the developer team big brothering everyone’s playing to match how they want the game to be played. Absolutely ridiculous.
On a flip side, I don’t like it when people skip the first two bosses in Plaguefall honestly and it develops a bad habit. I have no idea why they do not drop renown when they should.
On my nightborne warlock, I spam dungeons. The Necrolord is perhaps took the longest to get because people skip the first two bosses so much and go to the next random dungeon that isn’t Plaguefall.
Torghast now rewards renown which should have been done a long time ago.… and Surprisingly, Torghast is more optional than ever unless you seek for Rank 6 leggo but to be honest, you’d also complain about the Maw content anyways.
Overall decent changes and you’ll probably have to deal with it. It takes 6 minutes to kill the first two bosses, they really aren’t that bad.
Yeah, this is a bit silly imo.
It’s not really hurting anything by allowing people to speed through, you should see some of the stuff people do in GW2 lol.
With how quick it is to get renown already I don’t really see why this would even be a problem. Obviously with design of the dungeon it’s not “intended” but sometimes what isn’t intended is more fun and efficient.
Because when i’m trying to gear my alts or finish a calling there’s those two overgeared dudes who have majority in the vote kick who just have to be placed in my queue.
This isn’t like walking past an optional boss though. They’re skipping half the dungeon. Which isn’t how dungeons are intended to be run and isn’t fair to those who want to run the whole thing.
There’s plenty of ways to get renown, it goes up pretty fast with 9.1.
The easier fix is to do like FFXIV does and just make all the bosses mandatory (at least none come to mind that are skippable) by virtue of dungeon design or preventing moving on until it is dead. You aren’t going to find a ton of support for dungeons to support skippable bosses anyway.
Though I think Blizzard should actually have you doing stuff for your covenant in their respective zone to catchup on renown. Like killing rares or depositing anima…something that actually benefits the covenant itself.
