Why do tanks leave ??? its frustrating as a dps I have to wait 15-30 minutes to get into a dungeon even longer as a dps for Mythic plus even if I use my own keys…
Tank always leaves moment someone calls them out for messing up in a nice polite manner not mean but nice…
They cant seem to handle it and leave destroying my chances of getting key up cuz everyone else leaves right after…
Need a real punishment for tanks to stop them from queing up again so fast in mythic plus… and for regular dungeons I guess 1-2 hour penalty for quitting on team.
Sounds like you’re running into some really sensitive tanks. Sorry to hear that. I don’t know, personally. I think some should mention if they maybe don’t know everything super well yet, but that’s courtesy.
Edit: Just saw the punishment bit. Yeah, not cool.
No We did what tank said to do and he just died pretty much instantly and he was a Blood Death knight with his bone shield up and got wiped fast we did pull a bit big we tried again a smaller mob…
Tank was good geared what caused us to wipe were mechanics tank would not follow so we explain and he quit… Just a few minutes after I made this topic Tank is whispering me in game…
Say I am a jerk and that he had to leave and ruin my Key cuz us DPS players are dumb!
WTF that is so wrong we DPS were doing everything by the book… It was Tanks fault and we nicely told him he messed up and he left.
You want to punish the least played role? I do not think you are going to find much support for your cause.
Tanks in general have the most responsibility of the group. They have to know the fights, be properly geared, and go at a pace that not only keeps the healer mana fed, but prevents the dps from getting bored and auto pulling.
If you have so much to contribute to the world of tanking in terms of advice, then make one. There are plenty of hunters and other dps that will fill your spot.
If that is simply not an option then the responsibility falls to you to better vet the tanks you are running with when using your key, and in most cases it is in the groups best interest to keep your ‘helpful suggestions’ to yourself.
they leave because why sit in a group with someone being a jerk and trash talking when they can just drop, requeue and immediately get into another group that probably wont.
Typically people criticizing tanks are a bad sign of a toxic group. It’s best to drop when you see that or vote kick the trouble maker.
I’ve never seen a group where someone “politely” criticizes how someone else is doing in an instance. And I’ve probably run multiple thousands of instances over the past 12 years of playing.
The tanks who drop are smart to do so. Nobody needs backseat drivers.
How many times as a tank have I queued, and all I’ve heard is
"Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go "
How many times have I, as a tank, introduced myself, and tried to find out what people’s expectations were? Only to be straight up ignored.
How many times have I asked the group to hang around for another run? Just to see people split right after the final boss of the dungeon req, which sometimes isn’t even the last boss.
How about you take the idea of punishment, and toss it out with your bad experience?
We’ve all had them, and just because tanks get the quick queue doesn’t mean that we’re literally the groups’ punching bag.
I hear you, OP. I do. I believe you, as well. I believe you 100% that the tank didn’t understand a mechanic, that you guys explained it Kindly…and he rage quit.
That said, you identified the issue in your very post. People HATE how long it takes to queue, and tanks have instant queues. So…you have a lot of people who will level a tank or re-spec to a tank they don’t know how to play, and jump in. Maybe they’ve seen the content as a DPS’er and they think they know what it means to tank. Maybe they get embarrassed and can’t deal with the learning curve. I don’t know why that guy was so sensitive. Maybe he got into your group after dealing with a mage tank or a pull-crazy hunter or a rogue that refused to kick anything and was just fed up.
But the thing is: we need MORE tanks, not fewer. If we start punishing tanks for leaving (which they do for legit reasons all the time because people abuse tanks ALL THE TIME), after they hold the weight of responsibility for EVERY run, it will damage the community in a big way.
Tanks have to know the fights better than anyone else.
If they make a mistake, it wipes the group. People aren’t kind about that.
The stress of tanking is tremendous. As a healer, I will say their job is even harder than mine, and they take the blame for things that aren’t their fault even more often than I do.
So I’m sorry you got a jerk. I totally believe you. It was probably a very young person with no emotional maturity. But we can’t punish tanks for tanking. We can’t.
OMG I tried that. No, thank you. Tanking is HARD. It’s not hard because of the role, necessarily (though that comes with extra responsibility to know the dungeons before going into them…and that’s rough). It’s because tanks have to put up with people who don’t listen, people who are impatient, and people who are abusive far more often than any other role.
I agree with the OP as a DPS, but as a Tank on All Classes, I have one rule when Tanking. IF YOU SPANK IT, YOU TANK IT.
If you can’t wait for the Tank to pull and just want to Go Go Go, then form your own group with like minded people. The Tank has the responsibility to make sure of everybody’s survival in the dungeon/raid, as well as making sure the Healer has enough Mana after every fight, and also to make sure that the DPS do not die due to mass or over pulling of mobs.
So be patient with your Tank as he / she can leave and instant que again for a new dungeon, leaving you to struggle and find a new player to help you.
Once again my only rule for Tanking in any situation is: IF YOU SPANK IT, YOU TANK IT. and I live by that.
Why put up with lip when you don’t have to? I know I don’t as a tank. I don’t randomly ditch people or screw their keys because I feel like it but if people are rude, I’m out. DPS just forget their place in modern times.
I’d appreciate it if you guys would let Blizz know this stuff, apparently they don’t know it.
So they keep nerfing and making really stupid, pointless changes to tanks that REALLY hurt any enjoyment we got out of our role. And we don’t hear about any of it, they never mention these changes ANYWHERE or are willing to talk about them and the worst part is, they’re still not done making them.
One of the main reasons why I’ve got 8 days left on my sub. You’ve killed an entire role, congrats Blizz.
