Look guys, streamers ruin MMOs. They take in a large audience, turn it against other players who disagree with their lifestyle, and amass a following that encourages bullying and harassment. They do this, all while making profits off something that should be (and in most cases is) illegal.
You guys can do whatever you want with your money and your time. I’m just saying, the game would be better if more people started playing the video game instead of watching the streamer do it.
I’m saying that streamers should be treated like every other player in Azeroth. It’s unfair they get all the goodies while everyone else has to pay for it, no matter how long they’ve played the game.
It’s unfair that they get free carries, free battle pets, free lootboxes while everyone else has to spend ludicrous amounts of money for all three of these.
Streamers are the P2W players of WoW, where companies pay the streamer, and players who don’t stream are always at a severe disadvantage.
If we want to get in to specifics then he also runs a company and an organisation on the side. You have also personally lost nothing from his existence apart from the time spent manifesting your envy over someone being richer than you.
Side note, his success online allowed him to become the full time carer for his now deceased mother.
Yeah, enjoy working your 9-5 while there’s someone in their mom’s attic laughing at how you don’t even make a fraction as to what he makes.
Then tell me when you’re having to stress about your mortgage and utility bills that your efforts are worthwhile when there’s someone playing video games on camera and making a fortune.
I am not 15 yo to be jealous of this. we are grown people to believe that this is any kind of success compared to other occupations. I can name you multiple bad things about a professional streamer, and let’s not forget that you only see the success and not how many fail
Their salary is determined the same way a professional athlete’s salary is determined, through how many people they bring in to watch them play. One is paid proportionate to their skill set’s value, the other is paid according to how well they can entertain people.
Ironically the chat entertains more than the streamer. Most of the time, the chat is entertaining the streamer. So where’s my cut?
Also, professional athletes train and put their body to their absolute limit to achieve what they do. Anyone can turn on a camera and play video games. Only a select few people in the world can achieve what an NFL player or an Olympic athlete does.
Their fans want to be acknowledged and engage with their favourite streamer, so they offer free services or items.
A perk of being genuinely liked (parasocially or not).
Advertising/incentive to remain loyal to the game.
