Why do Retail players hate SoD so much?

Personally I love SoD, the Devs are doing a fantastic job of reimagining Classic in a new and unique way and I am excited for the future of it.

But lately I have been reading the opinions of Retail players and Reddit in general and people seem to really hate SoD, these are the most talked about things:

  • Not enough new content, all the new content is boring and unoriginal.

  • PvP balancing doesn’t exist in any capacity.

  • PvE is same tier list as Era servers, same meta, nothing changed.

  • Runes are unoriginal and aren’t fleshed out, seems randomly thrown together with no testing.

As someone who has a family and kids with a full time job, I don’t really understand these criticisms as I find the PvP to be fun on my Ret Paladin and the raid is very challenging along with the new reps being a fun goal to grind towards.

But it does feel bad that so many people are talking about SoD this way.

How do the rest of you feel about SoD so far? Do you agree or disagree with what people are saying?

But how can retailers hate SoD if SoD is just classicfied retail to begin with?

I mean ppl on this forum classify me as a Retail player and I’m greatly enjoying SoD.

they don’t? lots of retailer players enjoying SoD, probably because the retail abilities added to the classic help it feel smoother, plus there are new tank specs and stuff.

Boring thread. Try harder.

Paid actor making a shill thread.

how does a family and kids affect the PvE and PvP balance?

I haven’t seen a clear majority of classic or retail complain. Me and all my friends are from retail and love SoD so far. The only real complaints I see are from trolls, both classic and retail players can fall under this category.

edit: Rdf with another troll post I should’ve looked at the name before commenting

It’s because SoD isn’t enough retail changes for them. They just want retail in a different package.

SoD doesn’t appeal to anyone. It’s not retail enough for retail players and too many changes for classic fans.

Blizzard figured out a way to make the most people unhappy with a new product and implemented it.

Because they left all of the terrible things about classic in game. Annoying quests, annoying traveling, and tons of QOL features removed, I mean we don’t even get to use summon stones!

Like I said you just want retail. Go play retail.

I think this is likely something people who play WoW as a lobby game consider to be the case. However, I don’t think this is relevant to WoW Classic or WoW Classic: SoD, while I do think it’s the case with something like Wrath Classic/Retail.

This is an odd one, because PVP has never been balanced around 1v1 in any version of WoW, so it’s hard to know where people are coming from, but there’s pretty excellent balance considering that reward bearing PVP is currently 10v10s. The only question is whether Paladins or Shamans on your team makes enough of a difference to call that (im)balance.

Cool. I wonder what sorts of innovative games people who are saying this have developed lately.
