An argument I often hear on here when I advocate for more casual content and rewards is that it will invalidate raiders hard work. But why do raiders deserve the best gear?
Why doesn’t Blizzard divide up the gear? Raid and mythic gear could still be the best for instances. But why not create casual gear? It could have world bonuses and could be gained from crafting and difficult quest chains in the world. Maybe it could increase speed, damage in the open world, and gold drops or something. But it would be hands down the best gear for world content. There’s no reason for raiders to have the best gear for all content.
At least if the gear was separate it wouldn’t affect the raiders who seem to think casuals deserve nothing. Would this system work?
The problem is you have to define difficulty. How do you design difficult open world objectives that match raid difficulties to justify similar levels of power gained?
Because I find Shadowlands has no gear progression for casual players and alts. I have virtually nothing to do to increase my power. They removed most of the good crafted gear, WF/TF, emissary gear, world quest gear, and decent gear from low mythic plus. This is the first time in years I have no reason to play the current content.
I’m not arguing that “casuals” don’t deserve this stuff… but rewards are based on risk. Raiders risk more than casuals doing casual stuff in the open world. Raiders might spend hours nightly, for days or weeks, trying to defeat a single boss for 5 drops spread among 20 players.
That amount of work has to be matched by a design that can be tackled by “casuals in the open world” and I just don’t see how you design such an encounter that players won’t balk at immediately, claim is impossible, and then clamor for Blizzard to change.
Honestly, that’s just because they made it too easy to get 197 gear with Covenant gear, it should have taken much longer to get there so that there was a casual sense of progression.
Mythic Raiders and PVP Glads deserve the best gear. Makes sense.
I can’t speak on M+ as I haven’t gone that deep into keystone pushing. Though I want to in 9.1. I just know the other two are definitely extremely challenging.
I’m not advocating for raiders to have worse gear. I just think maybe they should have something like tier gear to make it far better in raids while casuals get superior gear for world content. Then usual gear could still be far worse in raids. It’s just an idea to provide content and progression for casual players.
Cuz mythic raiders want to have the best gear i’m guessing and the dev team is made up of many old raid theorycrafters
I think raid gear should be overall the best quality - but should be “best” in raids.
I think PvP gear should be better than raid gear in PvP
and I think Dungeon gear should be best for dungeons (it would be nice if there were dungeon sets again that addressed seasonal affixes, and had stats prioritized for smaller group comps ie: better quality mastery pieces for resto druids)
Torghast should drop gear based on the ilvl each layer is balanced around. Gear obtained in one gearing path should suck for the other gearing paths. Gear progression fixed.
