I go into a level 30s zone at 30.
Get a level 31 quest, finish it and get a level 37E follow on. WTF…
It seems like quests jump level too quickly and you must zone hop to find reasonable quests.
It feels like intermediate quests are missing.
Zone and continent hop. There is no linear path in Classic. That’s how it was.
It’s been addressed in recent expansions.
You’re supposed to switch zones often and come back at a later level. It’s not like retail where you get 2 levels in a zone and never come back
Yeah this is definitely something that happens. That’s how they designed it.
I know you can dungeon and zone hop but I’m not sure how it is intended for us to handle the jumps in quest difficulty.
It seems like we’re supposed to hop around.
They wanted you to explore the world, that was the design philosophy, as opposed to keeping you on rails in a single zone.
So zone hop! It’s classic, there is no straightforward path to success. Plus, you can see lore and cool stuff in other areas, get fps, meet new people. Good stuff! Even abandon some of those q’s for now, you can pick them up later to load up on current quests somewhere else. It’s all part of the strategy aspect of the game.
Party up and you can complete the more difficult quests.
Remember, this is Classic, when the game was designed more for group play and community. It wasn’t meant as a solo steam-roll.
If you’re level 30 you should be jumping from southshore, arathi, desolace, shimmering flats, ect. Just jump around a lot until you finish as much as possible then go to STV until you’re like 40 or so.
The trick I found is if a zone is lvl 30-40. Go there at 36-37. That way you can complete the green quests and then the yellow/orange ones
You’re supposed to go to another 30 zone. Another option is to grind for a while or do a dungeon.
Because Classic was about experiencing the entire world, you had to level in an Alliance zone, then a Contested zone, then an equal contested zone on the other side of the world! Not like Retail, where you literally walk over the road and start your next quest lines!
Vanilla really emphasized the ‘world’ in “World of Warcraft”, if you expected to get comfy in a zone and do everything it offers right away, you were in for a bad time
They really wanted you to explore everything available, and usually had you bouncing around different zones to this end
While it can be a bit of an hassle to do so, I do like the incentive to explore the different lands
For those saying zone hop:
How do you know what zone to go to next?
Sometime, you’ll have to level in more than 1 zone at a time. It’s perfectly normal in vanilla/classic.
Exploration and memorization. If the place you’re at is proving difficult and you want to level up, go wait at a dungeon entrance or go over to the other capital city and spread out until you find the proper level zone.
Good example: I’m running a level 15 dwarf. I worked my way through Dun Morogh and into Loch Modan. Did some of the quests, but the others are proving difficult. Took the tram to Stormwind and worked my way to Westfall. did a bunch of quests there, then bounced back to Loch Modan to work on the ones I couldn’t earlier.
It takes some exploration to figure out man, so strap up some good boots and start running! Just watch monster levels, they’re your hint when you enter a new zone.
By design. I.e. you go to Westfall, level for half the zone, then you go to Redridge, same thing. You go back to Westfall, just about finish up, then back to Redridge. You get the idea. Was always like this in Vanilla, its knowing the flow of things thats key. Once you have done it once or twice it gets easier to know where to go. Best bet, look for 2 zones that are in your level range and plan on hopping between them.
Edit to say they give you some hints on where you can go by offering quests to that take you to a new zone. I.e. Westfall and Redridge has a quest sending you back and forth to carry messages and quest items.
Some things I like, but I really didn’t miss the time/money waste of zone hopping so much. Bleh, it is what it is I guess.
It’s only a money waste if you let it be one. I run through and skin/mine whatever I can enroute. Definitely not wasting my time doing it that way, but I’m still under level 20 on both characters so I’m not running super far either.
Yeah the running is a good time to enjoy your snack wile auto running and steering, otherwise a pita hehe. Guessing it was the devs way of making you explore
True dat. Its a good rime to catch up on gathering.
