Why do people want to pay gold for flying?

Seriously, why would you advocate for this? In this economy and with how they want to gate things, flying in new expansions would probably cost us a token’s worth of gold for each character.

Me? I want Pathfinder. I like Pathfinder. It’s free and account wide. I just want it to be available to start earning the moment we hit max level in a new expansion.

To me, that is the ultimate way to get flying. Something to work on as soon as I hit max level, no gold required, and account wide.

So why this sudden desire by people to waste gold on every character? Do you people not have alts? Do you seriously want to waste gold like that when it could be free?

I advocate for Pathfinder requirements to be worked on as soon as we hit max level or as soon as we hit a new end game zone!

People just don’t enjoy doing pathfinder and they would rather just pay gold. They would rather pay that token worth of gold instead of doing content they hate.

Personally I love pathfinder because I am cheap but the option for people to buy flying with gold should be there as well. This way players have a choice in what they do. Elune knows we could use some more player choice in this game.

Because they don’t like doing minigames :man_shrugging:

Why not both

Pathfinder account wide or gold per character

It’s not sudden people have wanted it since WoD

Cuz the pathfinder requirements bored a ton of players to tears and they don’t like the idea of paying for their entertainment to bore and frustrate them

A lot of it is because the game used to be WAY less grindy, so peeps, in general, complain about the grind increases added to almost every aspect of the game

Flying, for a ton of years, was unlocked at max level for pretty cheap gold cost and then later from a short 1-2 hour grind unlock

Pathfinder takes 10s of hours from stuff a ton of players would never do ordinarily

The pathfinder rates are not very high compared to the total buyers of each borrowed power xpac, most players found the grind and requirements not fun and didn’t bother which basically means flying was taken away entirely

These are all artificial barriers created by bliz, it doesn’t need a huge grind or a huge gold cost. Bliz is just pushing cash shop gold metrics at the expense of the game value to its players because bliz really only cares about players that will grind and buy gold for shortcuts

I’m quite certain most would rather have it just be free at max or even launch for all toons. Way better than gold or pathfinder.

Stated unironically by someone who wants to pay flying for gold per character?

Gold for flight is really just a stand in for:

Build worlds with flight in mind with a lot of areas becoming accessible once you hit max level using flight.

As opposed to small linear maze maps with people zooming by on horses with an army of mobs fowling them.

Blizz should bring it back for gold so when the rich farmers get a jump on the AH while everyone is still grounded, they can complain about that.

How is exploration a minigame?

That’s fair! A choice seems good to me. Blizz gets their token sales, I get account wide flying.

It’s not just exploration

Okay, but those aren’t minigames either. It’s questing and treasures and exploration. Other Pathfinders were main storyline quests, rep and exploration. Those aren’t minigames.

Finding treasure chests and reading books are to me

That’s just part of an RPG. I’ve seen it in single player ones, too. :woman_shrugging:

I’m fine with it, there will be addons that point me to everything so I’ll knock it out quickly

In single player RPGs the only point of the game to me is beating the end boss, any other activities not tied to power or story are minigames. God FF8 or 9s card game was dumb lol.

But how I view it doesn’t matter, other people don’t like it. They just want to fly to their raids+dungeons and hearth back to the city :man_shrugging:

I don’t really see paying gold for flight as a really big deal.
Not hard to make that gold for it these days unless not trying to .

Pathfinder is just another way of putting things behind a gate.

I mean seriously BFA flight is still Pathfinder.

While i’d like pathfinder to come out sooner, I think it’d be a pretty messy idea to allow it to be a thing right off the bat. As it is, during the leveling and initial max level phase most people are on the same footing, and when pathfinder pt 2 comes out most people are in a position to get it within a week or two with bfa having some people getting pt 2 a few days after it came out. If pathfinder were a thing at the start of an expansion, then things like mining, herbalism, and world pvp would essentially be a race to see whoever gets flying first meaning that you need to go as fast as you can before the competition beats you out by a wide mobility margin.

Though instead of coming out or so months into an expansion, maybe some time after the world first race for the opening raid is done so people have some time to do all the raidinating, the pvpinating, the keystoning, ect and then work on pathfinder without feeling like you have a bajillion things to get done or someone will punch your face in a way you can’t deal with.

My personal opinion is there should be two options:

a) Complete basic explorer and questing achievement, reach max level and pay 10% of account/s wide gold per character.

b) Automatically get flying on all max level characters who have completed the basic explorer achievement at one year mark into the expansion.

Because when you had to pay for it, you could pay for it the moment you qualified for the level requirement.

Now it’s prolonged drudgery that saps the joy out of the idea by the time you get it.

And no, “pathfinder” isn’t a “compromise.” The compromise is waiting until the expansion level cap to be able to fly again. That’s the compromise. We already compromised. Pathfinder and the wait therein is just BS.

And I have zero desire to spend a token’s worth of gold on every single alt to fly, when I could get it for free and account wide. I do like the idea of choice, though! You pay for it, I’ll go crank out the achievs for it!

I don’t. It still takes time to earn, but you’d actually be able to start earning it the moment you hit max level.

That’s how it is with gold and with Pathfinder now. Nothing changes. They either race to it for gold or they race to it once Pathfinder is released. :woman_shrugging:

Many people couldn’t. Especially on alts or if they swapped mains.

The economic failures of a few are no excuse to ruin the game for everyone.
