Why do people try-hard so much on 15 year old content?

Doing a simple quest Winterspring to kill furblogs is impossible. Every spawn point is camped by a level 60 raider. All to get an item that increases your attack power by 35 for 20 minutes.

Back in the day I cleared MC and BWL with just regular raid buffs and if you had a world buff that was great. Not a deal breaker if you didn’t have it.

Fast forward 15 years later and people act like if you don’t have every conceivable world buff walking it’s a failure. Why do people take 15 year old content way too seriously?

The actual question.

Classic lacks content. Is why you see so many try hards.

Let people play the way they want to play.

Agreed, can you get the botters to leave so I can just do my quests?

Are we complaining about botters or people wanting to try-hard? Because those are different things.

A lot of people retreat to online gaming (among other things) to seek that sense of self-validation & control that they cannot achieve in real life.

Bro I’m on a dead Alliance server and I had to find a random lvl 60 warrior trying to farm his firewaters to do one freaking quest. It’s ridiculous lol, blows me away that people are chasing firewaters for this crappy 35 AP buff.

Chess has been around for 1500 years. Why do people take it so seriously?

Because they get paid to play it.

I think there’s a difference between telling people how to play and simply acknowledging that the “tryhards” are impacting the game in other ways.

Chess is far more complex than Vanilla raiding coulder ever hope to be.

Vanilla Dev: Ok I need to make this fight challenging. I know! It’ll hit hard and have a lot of health.

Because some people want to be the best they can be at whatever they’re doing.

The real question is why does it bother you so much?

If you need a kill counter for your quest, try asking to group?

I’m slaughtering those Furbolgs en masses for the Winterspring Mount.

Saw a level 54 standing around the other day. Invited him for some kills on the grounds he not loot any BoEs or Firewaters.

He got his quest done fast and easy. Even stuck around for a bit to get the beads I didn’t need anymore.

Being social in a social game can work.

The not-so-subtle implication in this thread is that tryharding isn’t needed and is actually bad. That the furbolgs should be off-limits because of the quest. Mobs are mobs, people like to play in different ways. Let people the way they want to play.

Have you ever considered that maybe the OP is just venting and that the point of the thread is nothing more than “Wow this is different from the way it used to be”.

The OP makes no suggestion about changing the way the game is. Maybe don’t read into it that much.

Sure, but just let people play the game they want to play.

Some people crave mediocrity and being lost in the crowd. Others, not so much.
