Why Do People Think...?

That Chris Metzen will save the game? I love the guy as much as everybody else, but I recognize that the problem is higher up than the position he will be in.
The bad decisions came from higher up than that.
He will not be a cure.

And the other thing I keep hearing is that wow has gotten soft.
Soft how? Soft as in going to literal hell, The Maw, and not only did we survive…we ended up thriving. We started farming Hell. Then we moved from the shadowlands into the cornerstone of all creation in Zereth Mortis. The pinnacle of high fantasy end-game concepts…then now we are back in Azeroth, flying on the backs of dragons…while wearing armor and weapons that we made out of dragon coprses…ON OUR WAY TO KILL MORE DRAGONS!
Nothing about the past couple of expansions has been soft.
What, because Dracthyr? boo hoo, They are literally Dragon people. DRAGON PEOPLE…
Are dragon people not cool to you anymore? Is the concept of riding and slaying dragons suddenly not a core principle of most fantasy? Fight the dragon, get the loot…

I mean, Dragon Corpse Sword sounds like a Deathmetal band.

And to people saying silly things like “the game was cool and metal as hell back when it was just big, hairy, buff dudes fighting each other”…
Think about it, and you will maybe realise why maybe your description of what counts as macho might be a little bit softer than you say.
Sweaty. Hairy. Buff. Manly Men and Orcly Orcs, just trying to protect their people from the other big buff hair sweaty manly men and orcly orcs…
wrestling in the mud of the battlefield, covered in sweat and mud and blood, exhausted and spent…
Nothing wrong with prefferences. I wouldn’t mind…

But be honest with yourself about it. I like killing dragons with the spine of another dragon…you have fun with your sweaty muddy buff hairy men.

Yes.

You do have a point here.

Eh, he was one of the original creators of the Warcraft story as a whole.

Orc culture as a whole was kinda ‘designed’ by him.

I think having him around only strengthens the lore team. I’m happy he’s back.

Will it save WoW though? Lol probably not.

Lore isn’t what most people have issues with. It’s a part of it sure, but gameplay is way higher.

Probably because they heard someone call him the new lead creative director and not his actual title of Executive Creative Director and assumed that he would be writing the story now. When in reality they are probably only going to be running the story by him to get his opinion.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to assume his opinion is going to carry a lot of weight. But he’s not going to be writing the story. Will he “save wow”? I don’t know. What I do know, if I found the story of DF to be boring, and the only thing I did enjoy in DF was the dragon flying. So if with his addition to the team, the story becomes interesting again, I’ll say it was saved for me.

Otherwise I’ll probably drift father and farther from wow.

He wont by himself. Rumor has it they are also bringing back Jeff Kaplan. Getting the dynamic duo back together.

Just going off your title they shouldn’t.

I find it interesting they said he’s helping to create story for the ‘next generation’ and no one picked up on this.

You have to admit, Dflight has a very boring and tame story.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been very invested in WoW since Cataclym and WoD. That’s why I left for many years. I came back this year and I’m still not very interested. I just kind of role play here and there. All of the expansions I missed are not appealing, including the current one. But hey, we all have different interests. Mine just happens to not be dragons, in the slightest. I thought Deathwing was amazing but that’s really about it. I know people don’t like it, but I really enjoyed WoD and that’s because I’m a huge fan of orcs. When I think of Metzen, I think of the Horde and I think of the strength of orcs and their culture. I don’t think he’s going to come and save WoW like some hero and fix everything wrong with it, but I do think he’s going to offer a good narrative again and give the game a little more appeal and life. Some people are really enjoying this expansion and story, and that’s awesome for them. Enjoy your dracthyr and dragon flying and swords made of dragon spines. That’s cool. But for the rest of us that are looking for a different direction, we’re a little excited to see where Metzen takes us. At least I am. We probably won’t get another expansion focused on orcs for awhile but I can dream. Lol

yeah we need to get back to the complex and dynamic stories that brought us all here, like “GOOD VS BAD” and “THERE IS A BIG WAR”

People are only saying this because Bellular said it. And Bellular said it purely from a marketing standpoint. He seems to be under the impression that WoW isn’t thriving on sub numbers because the marketing wasn’t hype enough, which is true, but that doesn’t mean because it wasn’t metal enough.

The game’s quests were mostly not “metal” back in the day. The majority of it is collecting reagents and doing various chores. People are being completely uncharitable, and proving how easily it is to manipulate people’s opinions.

Not really. Not engaging, I can agree with. Because the primalists aren’t engaging and the villains we have were made up wholecloth from this expac, we have no history with them or know much about them, so they’re not engaging. Unfortunately, this will remain the case throughout the MMO’s life, because it is difficult to give us that time with the villains to watch them grow into their roles like we did with Arthas.

Nostalgia.
Nothing wrong with thinking about the past occasionally.
Hope he can turn the story around.

I like the guy, he lives for Warcraft, but he’s not going to save WoW. The story is the least of WoWs problems, hell I’d be willing to bet that half the people don’t even know what the current story is right now or the previous 4 expansions and I mean the actual story not just cliffsnotes.

When we get a new lead systems dev or class devs who actually knows what they’re doing, then my curiosity will be piqued.

Trolling 3/10

I gave a few points for the amount of stuff in-between that at least tried to hide it.
