Why do people think this game is made for casuals?

If I hear one more person draw the line to how this game is casual due to Everquest I’m going to freak out
Yeah we all get it Everquest made 20 years ago was really grindy, and N64 controllers were made for 3 handed lobster people

I’ve been back on WoW for a month now and I’m a casual player and my list of things to do is still huge

As a casual who has returned to the game I still don’t have flying
I still need to unlock higher ranked essence
I’m far behind on M+ mechanics
I’m not up to date with my cloak
I still don’t have a good corruption item
I still need a new weapon

Now I’m going to get a barrage of people who haven’t unsubbed all xpac explaining to me how they have a family and still managed to get flying by doing nothing but logging on and doing dailies for months on end and no other content

It’s not as casual as it’s made out to be

You expect to leave most of the expansion and come back expecting to have everything handed to you?

That isn’t casual. That’s entitlement.

That’s not the statement I was making

The statement I’m making is this game isn’t casual which I think isn’t a bad thing

I’m saying it’s not as casual as everyone likes to blurt out all the time

IMHO, I think its a mixed bag and will depend on how you personally define casual.

Generally speaking, even as a casual player you’re going to need to put in a few hours a week to get anywhere

Anything over like M5 is probably starting to pull out of the casual range and branch into intermediate…

Same with raiding if you dont have a good guild with a solid raid structure you’re unlikely to move past normal

But the main thing is people immediately go “well if your doing less than I am your clearly super casual”… while they drink their 4th redbull on a friday on their 10th wipe of the night

2020 wow: swoop down and get a tap on an elite WQ mob at 2% HP. wam bam corrupted item ma’am 425 ilvl IS R3. Better than 90% of loot from Ny’alotha.

2009 wow: gear up first through heroics, go into raids to get gear.

Game is extremely casual.

It’s casual in that the game offers many options for different types of people and their play styles.

I just returned recently myself and I still don’t have flying either. But it’s not preventing me from working towards it or even getting it at all.

I haven’t even done a essence yet and it isn’t impacting my game or enjoyment at all.

When it comes to Mythics, I was never a fan and I refuse to subject myself to having my “worth” based on some raider IO score that I couldn’t care less about. Will I miss out on mythic gear? Absolutely. Will it affect my play and enjoyment? Absolutely not.

I’m up to date on my cloak given the current content that I’m doing. Don’t cry over gear you haven’t gotten yet.

I don’t have a good corruption item yet either. Shoot, I don’t understand this whole corruption thing yet so… meh. Whatever.

The gear I have, armor and weapon and other stuff is sufficient for what I’m doing and what I’m working on.

Maybe the game isn’t as casual for you as you think it is because you are looking at things as a hardcore playing returning from a long break. OMG you have so much to catch up on and so many goals that need to be done now now now. Are you sure you are a casual? Because from everything I see in your post, you don’t act like one.

If you are a casual, relax. If not, then get out there and stop wasting time posting on the forums! You got reps to grind. Dungeons to spam and whatever else you hardcore people do. Min/Maxing and theory crafting stuff, right?

You can do most things in this game as a solo player, that’s pretty casual.

Oo, which elite WQ/mob has a 100% guaranteed rank 3 stars? I’ll go kill this one time and get it. Because… surely, based on your post, I wouldn’t have to farm corruption. Surely, I wouldn’t have 100’s of pieces of non IS corrupted gear, right?

I laughed at this harder than I should have. Well played.

I honestly could care less about being an over achiever in this game. I don’t even do Mythic+ and am still having fun. Honestly don’t even have time to do a mythic raid.

I am convinced you are trying to fatten us all up with cookies so we can’t run when the gnomes finally rise up and take over.

I mean why rise up, they are short… Just slightly lean over while sitting… than eat them

Why do you need to have all those things? I mean if you are Mythic raiding you need them but then you aren’t casual.

You don’t need cutting edge if you are casual so just play what you can that’s all I do. I find if I even try pushing Mythic raiding I end up quitting. I think it’s fairly well catered to all types at the moment.

Prepare to freak out. World of Warcraft was absolutely launched with the premise that there was a new game in town that was far friendlier to the masses than EQ or Asheron’s Call, with far gentler penalties in place and far more hand holding.
