Why do people think the stress test didn't work?

We have no way to know what variables they were testing. It could have been many aspects up to and INCLUDING authentication load, server login load, character creation etc. Just because you didn’t make it into the game world to run around doesn’t mean it was a failure.

If you feel wronged, or irritated by anything you did or didn’t experience in the stress-test yesterday, please go back into your profile options and un-check willingness for beta testing.

Thanks.

Having failures in testing is a success. Because you can identify and fix them before they go live.

If there really are people who can’t figure out what stress test means, especially with the blue posts let alone Google to search what is a stress test for a game… They really really really need to up their education

Really saddened by the reaction to the stress test here on the forums… like a bunch of addicts fiending

Or opt-out.

No you see they don’t have the attention span to navigate back to that screen thus the need to go back to school lol

I’m sure they’re used to it by now, but it’s got to be pretty disheartening for the people working on Classic that at every turn the same loud group is crapping on them no matter what is going on.

Yeah, I felt like the test last night was successful despite the fact I couldn’t get in. Off the top of my head, they could have learned:

  1. There’s a bug somewhere in the code that allowed people who already had beta access to create characters, but those that didn’t couldn’t.

  2. They were testing to see how their systems would react if people were trying to create toons on realms that were full or locked. Realms will probably fill up fast on launch day or could crash and get locked/taken offline while people will be creating toons. We helped them get data on that scenario.

  3. They simply could have been testing how many toons could be created simultaneously on a battle net account that has a separate cap of 50 toons for this game vs. retail wow.

  4. All kinds of other database backend issues that we know nothing about.

The gameplay experience won’t be there until 8/27 anyhow, so that wasn’t the point. This morning I was able to create a toon without any issues on the stress test realm and got in just fine. I take it that we gave them the server stress they need and now will look forward to the next one.

Not sure if this is a bug or just something that happens with congestion and something done on the server when you make your first character. I’m not in the beta. I kept getting “character creation timed out” but once i was finally able to make one character, I could make others just fine.

Not disagreeing with the point, something is going on there, just that it may be something else causing it for accounts with no characters on any realm.

Yep, that absolutely could be the case as well. I was never able to get past the character creation time-out. There are hundreds if not thousands of reasons that could have caused what we ran into last night. I hope those of us who kept at it uncovered enough of the problem that they can address it for launch!

Ummm look at BFA… you know its the same people right?

It really isn’t. The lead dev worked on Vanilla through to (I think?) Cataclysm, before moving to Hearthstone. He came back for Classic.

Yeaaah. Still works for Blizzard-Activision soooooo, yeaaaaaaah.

most of them are over 30. that ship sailed decades ago.
