Why do people say Engineering for PVP?

Noob question, but I keep seeing people say you have to take engineering for PVP, but I wasn’t sure why? puts on flamesuit.

Engineering Gadgets add extra tools to the PvP toolbox.

Namely crowd control and damage, even AoE damage

Engi only items like helms with on use effects that are good for PvP. Bombs, trinkets, etc…

Some are good for PvE as well. Like that chicken that increases party member AS.

You don’t have to. People say this because they’re theorycrafting. In theory, it’s the best tradeskill because it has the most potential. From a 100% min-maxing perspective, Engineering is the best to have for PvP and PvE.

I think Iron / Thorium Grenades are probably the biggest reason for PvP. But there are lots of other trinkets and things that are useful for all kinds of things.

Most good items from Engineering require you to have it as one of your tradeskills to use. Whereas, most of the good stuff from other tradeskills, simply require a person with that tradeskill to craft it, and then anyone can use it. Such as potions.

Engineering is mostly a money sink, it’s not a money maker. Vanilla is very gold-intensive. There is always something to spend money on. So it’s a big commitment. But for hardcore people, it can be worth it. But don’t worry about it if you’re not interested. Lots of other tradeskills are excellent to have.

Well, yeah. But they specified PvP. lol

It’s a trend that took off on private servers. No question some of the stuff is useful in PVP, but so are other things like pots. Personally I think the grenades, which strike me as most useful, are too expensive in materials to use routinely in pvp play. I tend to stay away from expensive consumables like that because it feels like it takes me out of the flow when I have to debate internally whether I should use something.

Explosives, helmets, shields, trinkets, etc. This is mostly a min-max thing, I personally prefer Alchemy to Engineering. It has a lot of the same types of perks, but you can actually make a ton of money with it.

For twinks, ABSOLUTELY!

For general pvp, it adds some tricks, as mentioned, but not game-breaking.

For lvl19 twinks, it’s the only helm you can have, along with the CC

You can get the fishing one. That’s the REAL twink helm.

This. Alchemy is highly underrated. People fail to realize when they buy those pots before a big battle they’re coming from Alchemists.

The trinkets and on use items give your character extra utility that it wouldn’t otherwise have, supplementing weaknesses or just adding more to the kit.

Gnomish Net-O-Matic Projector- roots your opponent in place.

Goblin Rocket Boots- insane speed boost for kiting, catching up to someone kiting, flag running in WSG, etc.

Goblin Rocket Helmet- Charges your opponent and essentially ‘sapping’ it for 30 seconds. You get knocked down, but a small price to pay for a 30second cc. Allows for great 1vX outnumbered potential.

Gnomish Mind Control Cap- 20s mind control, if it works.

Gnomish Death Ray- good for extra burst… can hit for over 2k

Frost/Fire/Shadow reflectors- trinkets with an on use that reflect all shadow/frost/fire (whichever youre wearing) spells back at the caster for 5 seconds. You can one shot POM pyro mages with their own pyro with this, become immune to frost mage damage while nova’d, etc. etc.

Outside of these incredible items, grenades are huge for extra damage but primarily the extra cc, a 3 second ‘gouge’ effect.

And bombs.

I agree, if the only way I survived was to dump a boat load of gold and time into consumables. I lost.

The belief is that you can buy them and have engineering which is better than just having alchemy.

Not that I agree.

Nothing said “Watch your back” more than an explosive sheep

Yes, Engineers can potentially buy the good stuff from Alchemists. That’s the theory. It’s not so practical though because gold is a resource.

I think we are in agreement. The nice thing about going Alchemy is that you can do it all yourself rather than buy off the AH.

You can feel more free to use the potions you make more liberally. The wide array of potions available are better than the Engineering consumables and trinkets overall.

Right, but anyone can buy and use.

I dont think its really up for debate if you are min/max for PvP, that Eng has to be one of your professions.

I agree.

Money being so hard to come by, at least for myself, I like being able to have good pots/elixirs and make money off of them as well.

That’s exactly my feels about it.

As an alchemist, I use them because I have a solid supply.

As an engineer, I don’t use the engineering consumables without hesitation and the alchemy consumables are not stockpiled.

I’d rather be alchemy and use them than engineering and save for just incase moments.
