Most people tend to make themselves look stupid by not typing what they mean. I’m guilty of doing it myself sometimes, but I correct myself when someone catches me.
When people CAN’T properly correct themselves and instead start backpedaling, then you know that aren’t discussing honestly in the first place.

Indeed. Looking back 13 years at the 18-year-old version of myself, I can confidently say that I was not yet adult, legal status notwithstanding. I didn’t really get my head on totally straight until somewhere between 22 and 24, and it was a good 4 years after that before I was really able to handle myself well.
An 18 year old is technically free to make their own decisions, but their lack of experience makes them targets for manipulation, which easily leads to them making decisions they think are theirs but really aren’t.
