Why do people like playing on PvP servers?

Do people really find getting randomly ganked while you’re minding your business enjoyable?

It’s not enjoyable… but it makes the game more interesting.

Last night I was questing in alterac… kitty druid ganks me. I go back to res and he’s killing mobs with a warlock friend close to my corpse.

Warlock goes to lifetap down to like 5% health at which point I res and then killed her with some instants.

Then I ran and blinked like hell… LOL

I guess it’s enjoyable for the sociopaths amongst us.

Everything in this game is scripted … except for other players.

How can you play on a PVE server? There’s no chaos factor…

Ever hit up a farming spot only to find the other faction is already there, this allows both factions to have to compete for mobs.

Pvp server can add alot of extra content to the game, for example - having an entire guild hold both Blackrock Mountain entrances.

Its not always about ganking, but it definatly makes the world feel more alive, and that constant question of how someone is going to react.

World of WARcraft.

That’s why I like PvP, cause it’s meant to be a part of it. Being ganked, or ganking, is what makes it feel as though you’re fully immersed in the game.

Why do people play on PVE servers? Do they like roaming around singing Barney’s “I love you, you love me” song?

Because getting ganked repeatedly just sucks. It’s not fun at all.

Because it adds tension to the world. There’s no risk on PvE servers and you don’t have the excitement of a group of alliance stampeding through an area, prompting a group of horde to retaliate triggering an awesome battle. That kind of stuff happens all over the place on PvP servers every day and it’s fun.

Because the world is actually dangerous to play in as opposed to being able to traverse the entire game world without a care in the world.

Sure, the corpse run sucks. I’ll give you that; however, nothing else in this game gives me a rush like pitting my button mashing skills against another players. Especially when they’re 5 levels higher than me and they initiate the attack so I can corpse camp them till they log off.

Not sure what you’re getting at though. You’re not forced to play on a PvP server. It’s plenty fun for a lot of other people.

Here’s the thing:

I would agree with you about PvP if death were permanent. That is a HUGE chaos factor if you literally couldn’t come back. Ever. I mean, what good is death in PvP if you can just respawn and go at it again?

Permadeath PvP is the ONLY type of PvP there should be. If you’re going go, go all the way. Not this halfway pansy stuff.

I love sitting in booty bay ganking horde. It’s quite interesting the dumb things that they will do when they attack me back and don’t have vanish or know any easy way outs and die from guards. And many open world encounters in many places where a group will chase you down to no end to kill you. It can be quite exhilarating at times. It can be annoying at some points like when leveling and stuff but once you hit cap it tends to become a lot more fun.

Because it’s like real world out there. Survival of the fittest.

It’s the added danger and increased opportunity for Honorable Kills. At least for me personally.

Probably 95% of the deaths I’ve had in Classic have been pvp related. That being said I find pvp to be the most enjoyable aspect of the game for me. That’s why I play on a PvP server.

That’s what they did in Diablo with Hardcore. It was semi popular. I’m not sure how it’d go over for WoW. I’d definitely give it a shot though.

Permanency isn’t really feasible though in providing an option to participate in button mashing “skill” versus another persons button mashing.

It’s good to be able to have the option to attack, or not, than it is to not know if you’re going to be attacked too.

Many times I’ve been wandering around and been minding my own when I randomly get mobbed by the opposing faction. We bump heads, all get a chuckle and pat each other on the back, then have stories to tell their friends later.

PvE is boring and too restrictive.

Because reverse ganking is one of the best feelings in WoW and it happens all the time because horde are bad.
