I can’t really understand why people hated the expansion. I could be missing some things since I’m a bit more casual and don’t play nearly as much as other players but I loved BFA and the features it had. Azerite and corruption gear was meh but I enjoyed doing warfronts, void assaults, and unlocking allied races so what do the majority of players dislike about BFA?
Because azerite, azerite power, islands, general alt unfriendless, poor pvp gearing, etc, was dreadful. Warfronts also were unfortunately just high budget LFR which to the surprise of nobody bombed so hard that they stopped making them.
azerite power, visions, grinding dailies to get the stuff to do visions was very annoying on alts, farming the lengendary cloak, leveling legendary cloak, no tier sets, horrible mog gear, diappointing raids, and lack of content/content locked behind long chain quests (ie: nazjatar is still so annoying to unlock now on alts)
It was the expansion meant to put the “WAR” back into Warcraft, Alliance and Horde duking it out because neither can coexist with each other. Instead we had a couple scruffles, then right back joining forces for the big bad of the week.
Basically like everything in WoW, bunch of good ideas, poorly implemented.
War fronts were boring and guaranteed victory if you waited long enough.
Azeroth gear was boring and a tedious grind without the class fantasy or intricate pay off that artifact weapons had.
Corruption was one of the worst systems in the game as it essentially made RNG procs 80% of your class performance
Old people didn’t like the horde Vs alliance story and some of us didn’t like the old god stuff (I didn’t care for the old god stuff and thought they wasted Nazjatar)
The alliance questing was all over the place everywhere except Drustvar.
Those are the reasons I can think of off the top of my head. Things I enjoyed:
Horde leveling quests
5 mask runs
War crates
Faction war narrative
Bounties
The invasions were fun
Allied races
I think it was the first few patches.
It was hugely alt unfriendly and the story was terrible.
I LOST one once!! lolol!!!
And everyone laughed so hard once it was over, it kind of made up for the stupidity of it all. It really was funny. lol
So it was POSSIBLE to fail. But… man… it was realllllly hard.
It started with a horrible story, and also continued one of my least favorite things Blizzard does with prepatches in having a hugely important, story impactful quest line that just…poof when the expansion launched. I cannot describe how much I hate the concept of removing story content from the game, especially important content like the start of the fourth war and the burning/plaguing of a major city.
It continued with a really poorly remake of the Garrosh storyline except this time we got to suffer the annoyance of Lich Queen Barbie and her fall from being a relatively complex character (as complex as Blizzard characters can be, anyway) to a cackling oaf with virtually none of the nuance or subtlety her character had been known for up to that point. It essentially changed the Horde narrative to make them pure evil for the sake of evil, no redemption in sight, which is what I already hated about Garrosh so I really hated seeing a repeat of that narrative, nearly word for word.
And once I move past story, there’s the Azerite armor which was low budget Artifact Weapons, and not nearly as interesting or fulfilling. The early on decision to make higher ilvl versions of gear you’re already wearing require a higher Heart level was asinine in design, the island grind because otherwise you got a pittance from doing WQ felt awful, and this was the first full expansion of no tier sets. Uldir armor was boring, and I genuinely hate everything that came out of Nya’lotha. Battle for Dazar’alor and Eternal Palace are passable but not great.
Warfronts were sold as something fun and engaging, but after doing the only two they ever released, they got old extremely fast.
And finally, I hated Corruptions. This may be more personal, but I loathed having 80% or more of my overall damage be a random Proc I had no control over, and the fact that I had to keep rerunning content and not only hope for the item, but also hope for the right level of Corruption on it was horrific. And God forbid I miss the arbitrary weekly rotation of the vendor selling Corruptions for what I wanted and had no idea when it would be back.
I have so much more to say, but there’s a surface level of why I hated BfA.
It got progressively worse as it went on with 8.3 being the worst the expansion had to offer
Gearing and the systems were the worst out of any expansion.
If all you care about is the systems then bfa is the worst. Shadowlands systems where a tad better HOWEVER lack of content, absolutely terrible story, and the the most annoying zone to be in WoW (the maw) takes the cake for me for the worst expansion.
Allied races, and the the story of bfa wherent too bad. I liked bfa solely for the zandalari and the zones were amazing.
It all depends on what you liked out of the expansion
We had catch up for azerite even essence lol what you talking about lol …
Eh, it’s popular to hate on stuff.
The only things I didn’t like was Azerite power being required to unlock your gear abilities and titanforging. The rest was pretty fun.
Had to pve to pvp
Bis azerite traits were locked behind weekly timegated titanic essence from M+ weekly chest
Raid weapons were insane, m+ and raid trinkets were also insane in pvp
Heart of azerite essences were all from pve (m+, raids, dailies rep) except one
Corruption was rng and silly and made a lot of things broken. The corruption vendor came kinda late and the rotation was unnecessary
Needing to upgrade cloak to max corruption resistance
Triple spite trinket thing from beyond meme
100% this. 8.3 was the worst the game had ever offered, let alone the expansion. No surprises that sh*tshow lead right into Shadowlands.
This expansion isnt any better…
Diablo 4 cant get here fast enough
Villian batting Sylvanas.
Saurfang not facing his responsibility for Teldrassil and betraying the Horde because “honour”.
Baine being annoying as all hell literally having a go at Sylvanas because she wouldn’t grab Saurfang by the ear, tell him to man up and drag him out of Undercity when he decided to stay behind and get himself killed oh and also he betrayed the Horde as well.
Magni and his Azerite stuff.
Annoying and boring grinds.
Horde got screwed over with the worst city ever, a boring continent and lame story.
And more
Alternatively you can watch these and think you’ll understand it better.
BfA had infinite power grinds along with RNG on top of RNG up until the very end when we got vendors and currencies to mitigate it. The lore was absolutely atrocious and made absolutely no sense from the start and perpetuated a world that logically would never exist (this is more a fault with Legion though).
SL was, no cap, a better expansion that did much to fix the problems Legion and BfA introduced and perpetuated. It had its own problems but they were WAY overblown. DF is a lackluster expansion so far with its only major redeeming quality being the inherent catchup mechanics that benefit alts. The lore/narrative is atrocious and the starting enemy is probably the worst of any expansion.
WoW is Diablo 4 lol you just run rifts endlessly and play cookie cutter builds
I don’t know - it was one of my favorites outside of Azerite power. I liked warfronts, and enjoyed the story a lot.
