Why do people go offline in M+?

Can they just not bear to face leaving a group hanging?

Joking aside, is there some kind of benefit to logging off vs leaving? I’ve never understood why people do this

They believe it lets them dodge the new rules for abandoning groups. Whether or not it actually does is what Wikipedia would refer to as a “subject of controversy.”

Rag/QT/azralon have predominantly done it for years.

Idk why, but that’s their thing.

I’ll tell you why, first off this is a video game and we play video games to have fun.
So, when your M+ group is bad and losing, you’re no longer having fun. Now that Blizzard has made threats of suspending players that leave dungeon groups players are now trying to avoid being suspended. players are ‘losing internet’ connections and going offline.

I mean they can always up the ante and go full wargaming and start banning players for dcing. and knowing them theyll probably do it. blizzard doesnt like it when players abuse its systems.

I told you guys blizzard threatening to suspend dungeon leavers was a bad idea, they should have implemented some kind of reward for staying in the dungeon…But now more and more players will begin to avoid M+ because the risk is greater than the reward.

And the more players blizzard bans the less M+ players there will be. It is a lose-lose situation. When you hold players hostage in dungeons they will begin lollygag or flat out go AFK during keys. This was the wrong way of handling the dungeon leaver issue.

Clearly an alt but thanks for checking out my profile as if that will prove anything.

uhm i didnt check your profile. your post count is right next to your avatar.

I see why you have over 27855 posts, you go around gaslighting other players.

I always do this when someone is toxic to me, to avoid getting too stressed I prefer to leave. I also leave when there is someone afk, or when the group is very bad (for example, no one interrupts, more than 30 deaths, very bad dps).

*Oops, I think I misunderstood your post. Are you questioning why people go offline instead of simply leaving the group? If that’s it then I don’t know lol. But we also have to consider that it could be because the internet went down, the computer turned off for some reason, among others.

Same reasons they go offline anywhere else?

DC? Cat ate their ethernet? Just tired of dying in your key? Could be anything.

There’s some pretty big advantages to DC’ing rather than leaving a group. There’s the possibily that it will bypass Blizz’s new detection rules for m+ bailers (I don’t think anyone knows for sure if that actually works). Then there’s the issue of people rage whispering you after you bail on a group. By DC’ing, you avoid all of that drama.

Wait this happened to me once, too. He even tried to come back for a little bit and then I assume got disconnected again. I assume it was a disconnect because he wasn’t doing anything wrong beforehand, and was like top DPS, too. Just mysteriously offline like the whole dungeon, came back for a little bit, then offline again for the rest of it. It was super weird.

Blizzard didn’t threaten people that happen to leave dungeon groups, nor did they lay out new rules on leaving groups.

They specifically targeted a subset of people intentionally joining keys to brick them to such a sufficient volume that they impacted a disproportionate amount of players. Somebody who leaves some keys each week was never the target of that, and Blizzard has made no indication that you should feel at risk of account action for leaving some runs.

I mean, unless you can point out to me where they said this. Nobody has yet, though, mostly just people misinterpreting the post Blizzard made on the topic to fearmonger.

What if I leave in the middle of a key, even though we still had time left and only 3 deaths, because a player was annoying me the entire dungeon, with things like “you’re horrible” and then he still pulls the boss alone while I (tank) was typing a response to his taunts?

This is a threat, "Today, we suspended players who repeatedly and recklessly disrupted Mythic+ groups.

We will continue to keep an eye on groups in the future, and repeat offenders are subject to escalating penalties."

I don’t think I’d read too much into it besides, if people are doing this now more frequently I’m sure blizzard is tracking on it which means the next set of ban waves is going to happen for people who decided to just disconnect rather than leave, especially if there’s a heavy pattern.

People were doing this long before the new rules. So imo, it’s primarily two reasons. One is to avoid confrontation, because if you simply leave the group, you can get whispers from the other members like, “Yo bro you a blah blah blah” and everyone is different and so they may not want to argue etc. The other is they’re short on time and if they feel the key is screwed then they’ll just close the game early and go off and do whatever else it is they had planned.
