Why do people expect a massive fall off?

repeat experience is the number 1 seller for mental addiction.

my girl , god bless her, wants a 200 dollar console box, my thoughts are, aren’t they stealing those games to sell you them cause they are not Nintendo or sega authorized resellers.

id rather not see someone steal from blizzard but for blizzard to say, hey its ok we will make you a free sever so you and all your free gamer pals can play wow to level 60.

thx for supporting blizzard for 27 years , let us give this back to you cause we love your support.

Simple. This is a rehashing of the game which many people played to death back in the day. Leveled many alts, did lots of stuff, clamored for changes to bugs and imbalances.

Yes, Retail has gone too far and isn’t as fun but it won’t take long for people to remember why they wanted changes and expansions. The game got very stale and boring well before BC came along, WoW was losing players, even the new raids only helped things a little bit.

People are going to join Classic for nostalgia reasons and because others have hyped it up. The people playing for nostalgia reasons are going to eventually get bored of rehashing old stuff, probably more quickly than the did the first time. The new players are going to miss the modern conveniences that were put in the game because it was getting old and creaky.

People are going to find out that all these meta ideas were tried back in the day and they just didn’t work. No, there is no magical paladin spec that has amazing damage. No, there isn’t any good way for moonkin to be viable dps. No, druids are not going to have an great way to raid except as heals and maybe the occasional off tank or maining a few bosses.

People will see that it’s boring to sit in a city for hours trying to get a group going and not being able to go off and do fun stuff while you look. Or that you will have to run instances a million times to get your set pieces, so much that you’re sick of the thought of ever entering Scholomance ever again.

I have no doubt that Classic will do well for a time but there will be a huge fall-off after a bit. This is why I wish that Blizzard simply fixed Retail to be more fun instead of splitting the community between Retail and Classic. Of course the massive amount of people who leave Retail to try Classic will probably kill Retail, it has enough problems already that it can’t stand such a loss of players.

People asked why and I gave the reason. Is it really that difficult to comprehend? The sheeple always believe blizzdaddy.

In the larger world, most WoW players of Vanilla have no idea that Classic is launching. I do expect, as word of mouth spreads Classic enthusiasm, we will see a continual return of many old players. Classic will grow in popularity month over month.

That said, I think there will be a dramatic drop in participation in the first few weeks as many tourists get a taste and then leave. Layering will handle the initial boom/bust. Gradually adding servers will handle the long term growth.

15 years of the same exact predictable cycle of a massively high population at first, and then dying down to a “normal” level quickly, on the release of every single expansion and content patch that’s been released in this game.

This but also because it was 100% free. That’s another reason there’s going to be a drop off. A high amount of people (going solely off of forum/reddit threads of people saying this back when pservers were huge, so take it with a grain of salt) only played those realms because they were free. This won’t be free.

Classic will be fine. Enjoy

I think there are going to be a segment of players who are accustomed to current retail who will find Classic a little unforgiving…and they will get bored/frustrated and give up after awhile. Perhaps the stress test gave them a feel for what it will be like and this wont be as much an issue though.

Well, people like me have 3 accounts active atm. JUST for name reservations. So, when I get those names on my primary account, the others are getting shut down. 1 month in, and I’m back to 1 account.

This simply isn’t true you can google World of Warcraft subscriptions and see the reality. Blizzard put out the numbers and people tracked it on a graph, the first major drop off was Early 2011, the game had been on an upward trend until that point. 2004-2011 upward trend.
Where is the population drop before Cataclysm?

That is completely unrelated. The total population was just the balance of people joining vs people quitting. People were quitting WoW since the day it went live. It’s just that throughout that time, more people were joining than quitting. But people are finite. At some point it’s going to gradually get to where more people are quitting than joining.

Before Cataclysm (and after), there’s been a trend in this game. At content patches and expansions, people who have barely played are now playing, and people who don’t typically play on Tuesdays are playing on Tuesday. This is why back before the massive server upgrade, it was common to have extreme lag and server crashes with every major patch. But then after a couple days / weeks, it was back to normal for that server.

That is the entire point of my OP, there will be more people joining than quitting. Was that lost on you? I thought I was rather clear and that is what it meant.
Of course some people will quit, however they will be replaced by new players coming in.

How are they unrelated when that was the point of the post?

This is delusion

Don’t forget before you go to Silverpine Forest to get your other half of the amulet to take Until Death do Us Part from Clarice Foster in TB. This lets you get two turn ins for the price of one

Because this is’t expected to be like a recreation of the original WoW launch. They’re expecting it to follow the same trend as expansions and content patches.

yea, people said the same thing about vanilla, TBC, Wrath, ect, and yet the population numbers kept going up.
I mean seriously do people actually think I mean no one will quit the game once they start playing it? Do you really think that anyone that presents an argument similar to mine, hasn’t taken into account that yes, some people will quit, but they will be replaced by more people that will continue to see the numbers rise.

The game was new

people expect a fall off because retail wow kids are not gonna last or will just complain, honestly i don’t want them in classic either they ruined current wow, they made there bed now they should lay in it now.

That makes no sense, you cant just “stop playing” and expect to catch back up when new content drops and play that. It just doesn’t happen, You have to be there week after week, month after month to progress and gear your entire raid for the next content tier of raiding.
Anyone that thinks they will just stop playing after clearing BWL once, then waiting until AQ40 drops, then expecting to easily find a guild and clear C’thun is delusional.
Will it happen occasionally, sure a guild will carry a few players maybe, but it will not be wide spread. People will stay with their guild and keep playing, 1 because community, and 2 they need to gear up to keep up with progression.
