Why do people expect a massive fall off?

Yeah count me as one of those people that if I decide to stop playing Classic for whatever reason, I have 0 reason to go and play BFA instead lol.

related, what makes him (I know of no prominent female Philosopher is why I assumed male) your favorite philosopher?

Lol Vanilla was actual content that not everyone could clear. BC had a little higher clear rates but still majority never cleared SW/BT/TK and last few in SSC. These lazy LFR/LFG kids that get booted because they forgot reagents or to lazy to walk the map won’t last long the game will be great. Dedication is what made Wow great , new Wow players don’t have it. You know back when an epic was an epic and not everyone sitting in cities was geared out in and had bag full of them.

a massive fall-off is inevitable just because classic is insanely hyped and a bunch of people who don’t even have much of an interest in it will be playing it just because its popular. twitch is a good example of this. streamers jump on the hype train because everyone else is, their viewers do the same, then a few weeks later they get bored and quit. I think people are overexaggerating how much it will fall off though. classic is going to be active for years

They can learn it. Many won’t, but some will. It’s up to the vets to teach them.

OSRS started with 40,000 players in Feb 2013, and dropped to 11,000 players by October 2013. It didn’t recover the initial launch numbers till October 2016 more than 3 years later.

People are expecting a drop off because that’s how the world works.

Keep in mind that it’s not just BFA that Classic will be competing with.

In a year, the next expansion after BFA should be out offering an entirely new experience… hopefully one better than BFA.

I fully expect it to be another doing time gated rep grinds through world quests expansion, and having a wait an entire year for flying again, so I’m not really interested in whatever the current WoW devs put out unless any of that changes. I fully expect it won’t, they seem pretty stuck in their ways. You can’t fly in Classic but at least the grinds are actually entertaining and not time gated.

Maybe other people will be interested in the next expansion, but I most likely won’t be one of them.

I don’t recall finding rep grinds in Vanilla to be any more entertaining than they are today in Retail.

A rep grind is a rep grind. They’re all pretty boring.

It’s the time gates that make it less entertaining for me in current WoW. I like being able to grind when I feel like it in Classic. I hate getting to a big wall of “that’s all the progress you can make for today” in current WoW.

Yes it did, actually. The streamers were pointing it out and asking Blizzard to either move forward with testing more content or shut down the beta.

you have to count any retail players that never played wotlk or before that may get overwhelmed having more abilities at 15 than retail.

Of course there’s going to be a massive fall off. Most of the players weren’t even born when vanilla was released. These retail kids have no idea what they are getting themselves into.

They will not be able to stand the leveling grind and the slow movement for most classes until they can actually afford a mount after level 40. Most players won’t even make it to level 60.

in ur defense, nothing is ofc but a horse ofc

There is going to be a drop off when most the population hits 60 and gets pre raids. This is when most private servers ended up losing players. Its also the time when “things to do” decreases. There will probably be a stable population from then till naxx release. After naxx there will be a semi constant decline because people will have “finished” the game. No game remains fun indefinitely.

There is a end of content. But it’ll be a great trip there.

if only 1% of the population saw naxx cleared, can you point to where content was missing for ppl to do?

The only reason we didn’t see that so much in vanilla was because TBC came along…

Sure . . . how many commercials have you seen for WoW Classic?

Sure, but compare that to the first BfA beta. People played for one day and after that it was a ghost town. Just look at the streamers, did anyone stream BfA beta? Not really because the viewers didn’t really care. This was all covered in the latest Classic WoW Q&A.
