Why do people dislike the return of old Scholomance/Naxx...?

General Discussion: Blizzard return old things back!

Blizzard: okay here it is but you gotta work for it, time and money specifically

General Discussion: no not that kind of work! This is terrible!!!

I’m even seeing complaints in trade chat

Do people not understand that back then in vanilla it did cost time and money to get cool things?

This new way to reintroduce old gear/mats is actually fun

It still costs time and money to do things. It’s just that they now tacked on a 2.8 million fee as well.

Not being free is perfectly fine, just that the current requirement is something quite a lot of players will never reach.

It’s a gold sink

You have people on here praising “oh man I got all this gold from the first week of DF crafting/BFA and SL mission tables lul I’m not paying blizzard a penny with my gold covering subs”

But a gold sink price is scary?

With that attitude, you’re right! You will never.

I haven’t seen hate on it.

Part of the issue that I have is that it’s not old naxx40 that was brought back. It’s just a portal to naxx25 in EPL. There’s some secrets there that was added and while interesting and could be related to some future content, it’s definitely a gold sink. Requiring T3 Feat of Strength to unlock the pattern isn’t a fun or engaging solution and can be a major block for some people who just don’t or won’t interact with the crafting order system.

Old Scholo coming back was cool, admittedly, It was a different feel to the new version for sure and I was glad to re-visit it.

They should have just put the instance back into the game, it wouldn’t hurt anything to be floating above the plaguelands, let people go and farm mog every week, do the same with old ZG, just put the instance back.

But it’s in northrend lore wise

Doesn’t make sense a pre cata Naxx floating in a post cata plague lands

The new one is, the old one was in the plaguelands.

Except epl is post cataclysm

Maybe do a thing where you could visit old epl with a bronze dragon npc sure

I still only have like 200k between all of my characters.

Yeah, there are plenty of those NPC’s that let you decide which version of a zone you want to be in.

They could have done nearly the same with with Naxx like Old Scholo. The ward is to a time displaced Naxx40 while the original portal and necropolis is still in Northrend. Old Scholo’s entrance is a book off to the side of the current day portal.

Unfortunately the devs apparently overwrote the 40 man nax with the wrath nax. So it’s technically the same instance.

Hence it being one of the more “messier” things for the devs to bring back.

They have the design framework and assets from WoW Classic that was rebuilt. They could have converted that into iive servers and recreated a nearly identical Naxx40 pretty easily if that had been the case. They did basically the same process with OG Scholomance.

OG scholomance was just replaced with a different instance. It still existed in the game files. Same with the scarlet dungeons. All the devs have done is adding back a portal to it.

Why would someone outright refuse to interact with Work Orders? That seems like a rather flimsy angle to slight the new system on. Throw up a Public Order and you’re done most of the time; I’ve literally never had a Public Order not completed, and I think all of them were delivered within like half an hour. In the case of an unfulfilled order, either just try again or maybe raise the tip.

I’m just commenting that I find it disappointing that they have the blueprint, framework, and assets to recreate naxx40 OG faithfully even if they didn’t have access to the original one and didn’t execute because:
-It was easier to utilize current assets this way.
-They compromised and didn’t want tier 3 prestige to be tarnished as “just another farmed set”
-Because they never intended to offer that to us and we created our own narrative about it due to datamining from wowhead.

Granted Blizzard never said we’re getting OGNaxx back and I’m still thankful that there’s a way to get tier 3 now that isn’t only the BMAH.

Blizzard led us with breadcrumbs to a potential narrative thread in the unlock of both and would be pretty neat to see, but is mostly just a dead end and red herring.
