Why do night elves shun their troll heritage?

Trying to say that elves are better then trolls is bluster.

Stronger. Higher propensity for the magical arts. Vastly longer life spans. More than three fingers. Not ugly.

The only one up trolls have is regeneration which is a huge boon, but also easily countered by fire.

I don’t remember that one either.

There are a few cases but the main one that comes to mind is Aurora from In the Shadow of the Sun who still proclaims to be a Priestess of Elune.

Well, “Superior” in this case is subjective

Unless they are though.

I do no think there is anything definitive, but Chronicle does describe that the energies of the Well of Eternity does transform Trolls into “Highly intelligent and graceful beings.”

Which certainly does imply that elves do have advantages over their predecessors.

I mean we can. Look at the Night Elves Wars since then, they haven’t been nearly as powerful.

They were going to lose to ONE group of Aqir. The Trolls defeated ALL groups of Aqir. The Night Elves clearly lost much of their magical prowess once the well was gone.

It wasn’t just a source of knowledge, it was an active source of power that they utilized.

I mean, empowered by an old God and weaponizing the SIlithid. The Trolls still had their empire dealing with that threat, The Kaldorei had Northern Kalimdor, and generations of peace.

That’s not really a substantive argument, especially when the Kaldorei post-sundered have maintained several seats of significant power much more than the trolls have.

I do not think the Night Elves have any loss of magical power at all, I think it just takes a new form.

Yes because the Trolls are weaker now than what they were during the Empire of Zul. No one argues that.

The Aqir the trolls fought were being militarized by the Cthraxxi for the Old Gods, its not any different. There wasn’t an unleashed old god during the War of Shifting Sands.

The Night Elves with the well were capable of collapsing the Empire of Zul with relative ease. The Empire of Zul took on and defeated all three groups of Aqir.

Night Elves without the well were going to lose to a single group of Aqir. They are significantly weaker without the well.

It is different, because C’thun was ushering the Aqir and Silithid, along with Cthraxxi generals. The war of the Shifting Sands was a far more significant threat.

Not to mention this was post-sundering. The Kaldorei were fewer in number. Far fewer than the empire of zul.

C’thun wasn’t doing much of anything. He was trapped. Cthraxxi generals rallying one group of Aqir is sort of irrelevant when Cthraxxi generals were rallying the Aqir during the Troll/Aqir war as well.

C’thun was urging them on… Okay? It’s never said he’s actively powering them. He was directing a group of Aqir to attack. Sure, that’s a threat. It doesn’t compare to when EVERY SINGLE GROUP OF AQIR was being directed to attack during the Troll/Aqir war.

The Night Elves literally fought 1/3rd of the army the Empire of Zul dealt with.

Yet, sealing AQ was the end of that war. And killing C’thun was the end of the 2nd war of Shifting Sands… To believe C’thun wasn’t the most significant aspect of that war is downright willful ignorance.

And were 1/10th the size of the Troll empire… math is hard.

Trolls are far stronger than Elves. Zandalari Trolls in particular are strong enough to pierce armor with only their thumbs per Shadows of the Horde.

Again, you keep pointing to C’thun when NOTHING says he was doing anything during that war. He urged the Aqir to attack, that’s all it says. Us defeating C’thun when he’s trying to break free is thousands of years after this point.

That doesn’t mean these Aqir were magically stronger than they were before.

Night Elves losing their magical prowess is literally a plot point in-game. Blood Elves mock them for it, and we haven’t seen a single Night Elf in-game who comes remotely close to Azshara when it comes to magic. They’re weaker now because they don’t have the well. I didn’t even know that was up for debate.

You are missing the point that, when he is removed from the equation, the entire threat goes away…

His role is significant and far more deadly than just his subordinates.

No no no, night elves didn’t lose their prowess in the Arcane, they outlawed the arcane altogether.

That doesn’t mean they are weaker, the Night Elves are unmatched when it comes to Holy and Druidic arts.

You can’t say they are weaker without the well when their entire post-sundering culture is anti-arcane. You can say they are weaker because they had a war that blew up their empire, and they are now a fraction of their former glory. Much like the trolls, except they have faired far better than the post-sundering Troll Tribes.

I can say they are weaker without the well. The Well was feeding their arcane power. Their arcane power dwarfs any societies magic that exists today, including the Night Elves druidic magics.

The Blood Elves were the highborne users of magic, and even they paled in comparison to what the Night Elf Empire had. It’s not a debate.

Maybe that’s because it was outlawed for 10,000 years lol.

They are, hands down, the most powerful race when it comes to Druidic and Holy magic, however.

Arcane magic is not the only measure of power.

No one cares if they’re the most powerful Druid race or Holy race (although that seems up for debate? Draenei would like a word with you there, along with humans).

The Night Elves arcane magic that they had during the Empire is FAR stronger than the Druidic magic that have today. Their druidic magic can be strong relative to the forms of magic today, but it doesn’t hold a candle to what existed back then.

Prove it.

You can make declarative statements all you want, but you have absolutely zero credibility.

Source please.

Trolls have superior knowledge of magic.

That’s just an opinion.

Trolls reproduce, and repopulate, far faster.

Troll have tusks.

Yes, an implication, from the Titan’s perspective.

Not true.

It’s the right opinion tho.

Not necessarily better.

Seems problematic.

The Titans are Godlike beings of knowledge and order… I think their perspective goes a long, long way.

Night Elves stopped practicing magic ten thousand years ago, while Zandalari have kept it going nonstop.

It’s not an argument tho.

Neither is a longer lifespan.

I bet trolls would consider more fingers problematic.

The Titans were blinded by their “godlike” knowledge while their greatest champion killed/imprisoned them all, created a demonic legion, and obliterated countless worlds across multiple universes. I’m not sure their opinion on “superior” is worth much when the end result is arguably the worst thing to ever happen in any universe in WoW.

Because everything we get from that time period is how deadly and amazing their magics are and how nobody had ever seen anything of the sort.

Nothing Night Elves do today is all that special. Everything Chronicle goes into detail about is how terrifyingly powerful their magics were. Yet what Night Elf magic exists today that is so far above everyone else? Sure Malfurion and Tyrande are strong, but are they really more powerful than others?

People like Jaina, Velen, Khadgar etc. are just as powerful as nearly any living Night Elf today. They aren’t special, they aren’t above everyone like they used to be.
