We know its common knowledge now, because even the blood elves know about it. They were taunting the night elves near Suramar with trinkets and propaganda about them being trolls.
So why do the Night Elves not embrace their Troll heritage, There is no shame in descending from a people who have had the greatest empires in the world.
Didn’t it start because the night elves felt they were superior. So they started an ethnic cleansing, only sparing a few to have proof they were better.
If we take the night elves’ perspective…it’s only understandable that the trolls alone were never a significant threat, never a danger to the night elves, they were always “weak” in relation to them…this thinking was spread many thousands of years ago, and the night elves of the time found the trolls uncivilized on top of everything else.
Fixed images of nations do not disappear quickly, and there has been no reason for the night elves to rethink this image, because from their perspective, when trolls appeared, they were a messenger of disaster that must be quickly eradicated and destroyed.
I just hope people don’t think I’m attacking night elves, I just thought this happened when Azshara became queen. I don’t know much lore which I why I read the lore forum to learn.
None of the Elves actuality embrace it and before that quest in legion, it was thought that none of the Elves even knew about it.
You need to add all of the Elves to that list.
Above anyone, the Nightborne would disagree the most.
Let’s not forget that the Troll’s took issue with the new Empire and attacked first. They’ve always been enemies and no racial familiarity has existed between them for thousands of years so I wouldn’t expect there to be any acknowledgement of that heritage. Furthermore the Night Elves and by extension Blood/High and Nightborne attribute there existence to Elune and her guidance, not Troll heritage.
I doubt the blood elves attribute it to elune, they shunned her and started worshiping the sun. As for the Nightborne, its unknown if they still worship elune.
Night Elves and Trolls were warring when Azshara was queen but that’s because the Night Elves had expanded a lot by then and were taking a lot of Troll territory, it’s unknown who attacked first.
i think in general the troll/elf conflict is one of the few morally gray conflicts this setting has.
Both sides have legitimate views here and legitimate reasons. So we shouldn’t say “THEY, and ONLY THEY are to blame and bear the sole responsibility”. It is a gray conflict, both sides have reasons and both sides can blame the other. Sometimes I wish we had more such conflicts.
I know people hate time traveling in games. But I would personally love an expansion in the past dealing with the Trolls vs elves. But knowing blizzard it would be trolls bad elves good.
It started because the Kaldorei Empire started expanding, spreading outwards from central Kalimdor. And the Trolls, of course, took offense.
Azshara actually made a treaty to spare the Trolls because of the Night Elves’ percieved superiority. She deemed the Trolls just too far beneath the Night Elves to even be worth going through the effort of trying to ethnically cleansing them. So, she made a treaty with the Zandalari for them to keep Zandalar, the Gurubashi to keep Zul’Gurub, the Amani to keep Zul’Aman, etc., and the Night Elves getting pretty much everything else, without the Trolls getting in the way.
The devil is in the details, she has poisoned the troll relationship for thousands of years because she made the Zandalari use their influence to make sure the other tribes don’t do anything rash. So instead to threat the night elves…trolls have to fight trolls
A clever move, but also a cruel one. why could azshara or the night elves not allways be so smart?
