WHY do I keep disconnecting?

Every time I play this game, at least once, I am booted off with a BLZ51901016 error. Battle net disconnects too. My internet works otherwise–I am able to visit websites, etc. This disconnect lasts for at least 5-10 minutes.

This happens like clockwork every time I play. What gives?

Hey Cive,

Disconnections can be caused by a number of different reasons. Can you let us know what troubleshooting you’ve tried if any?

One thing that we usually recommend doing is “capturing” a disconnect using a tool called WinMTR. This can help identify if there’s packet loss or high latency happening in the connection between your game client and the server.

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled battlenet and the game. I also updated Windows and my graphics drivers. I will run WinMTR when it happens again, yes? That’s what you’re asking me to do right?

Hi Cive

Go ahead and run the WinMTR while you play. If you disconnect then save the information on the tool. Click the Copy Text to Clipboard button or the Export Text button. Paste those results on your thread here.

The little tool will cause no latency while it runs.

OK thanks. I will do that next time I D/C.

You can leave the WinMTR run for hours. Like I said it isn’t using any system resources. The longer the run the better the information.

Hi there, I was finally able to capture one of my disconnects:

Hi Cive

We see a large amount of packet loss on the home network that carries down the hop switches to Blizzard. Not sure what is going on there. Have you tried the standard Power Cycle of the network devices.

Describe your home network. Wireless or Ethernet cable - Router then a separate Modem or combination Router/Modem device. Anything else in line - switches - splitters - VoIP devices.

The modem/router is on the opposite side of the wall, I’m connected to it via WiFi. Does it make a difference if I’m connected to the 5G connection?

Try the 2.4 connection. What type of wireless adapter do you have - is it a USB dongle or a device in the computer itself?

Okay, I’ll switch to the other connection and see if that helps. Um, I’m assuming you’re talking about the wireless card–I installed it into my computer. It’s just a card with antennae. (For someone who built their own computer, I’m not 100% tech savvy heh)

Edit: Swtiching WiFi network did not help. Another DC.

Unfortunately switching WiFi networks did not solve the issue:

Let’s see if we can update the wireless card. Run a DXDiag system report:

The second section of page has DXDiag report instructions - we don’t require the MSinfo report.

That will be a wall of text. If you have issues pasting on the Forum here go ahead and put it up on pastebin.com. Provide the link code portion of the URL - example below.

(The green bold portion at the end of the link: https://pastebin.com/**Qk28Ed1P**)

To confirm suspicions it would be a good test to run things on a Ethernet cable.

The most recent driver I can find for your TP-Link adapter is from 2014. Not likely to help here. To confirm this is a wireless issue I would pack the computer over to the router so you can test with a Ethernet cable.

You might try resetting the router to factory defaults. There should be a small recessed button that you would press with a pin or pen tip. Press then hold down for 30 seconds.

Argh. Unfortunately I can’t just up and connect my computer via ethernet. I’ll try resetting the router.

Your WinMTR shows a heavy packet flood, which generally happens when the PC disconnects while running the test. Otherwise, it shows you ran the test for several days, and I don’t think that’s the case

The good news is that I think your issue might be related to one I saw a while ago on the Overwatch forum from around the time you started this thread. I see you’re on Charter/Spectrum/BrightHouse/RoadRunner – whatever it’s called in your area. This ISP has UBEE and Arris modems, and some of them received an update that causes the DHCP release time to be only minute, or an hour. When that time expires, you get reconnected, which will cause current connections to release (WoW). You’re unlikely to spot this behavior on websites, because most aren’t constantly updating.

If you can, check the DHCP lease time on the modem settings and make sure it is at least a day long, or set to never expire. Or, you can call the ISP and have them login to your modem and check it for you if you aren’t sure how to do this.

Hey. Unfortunately I’ve been having the same problem but with a different error code (WOW51900319). I can sometimes play for an hour and other times i can get to the character selection and it’ll log me out and i have no idea what to do.

Wow, thank you for such an informative response! I will be sure to check on that. Thankfully, I haven’t had many disconnect issues recently. But that may change.
