Why do hunter tier sets look so awful?

I’ve never understood this. The hunter tier sets have always looked ridiculous, ugly, or a mix of the two. The only exception is the tier 19 set from the Nighthold in Legion, which looks absolutely fantastic because it’s designed after gear that would fit a ranger. It always bothers me that all of my awesome tier sets are on all of characters except my main.

I’ve been asking that for years that is why I made my own hunter transmog

They insist on not letting us mog leather despite making our “mail” tier sets entirely leather and scales. That’s why.

You think its ugly but its not. You as the player just don’t know what you want so we as developers have to make the decisions for you. Looks at the Massive amounts of feedback on how bad hunter cosmetics are Fake news!

Most of them do look bad. However I REALLY like the look of the nighthold tier set. LFR and Alliance PvP especially. Sadly the horde PvP look for that set only looks good on a blood elf.

Well of course they do on a belf . We all know all belfs are females and they all look good in slootmog

Mail armor is just meant to look bad for some reason.

Some of the mail armor looks allright, imo. Alot of it is kind of over the top though , which makes it look a little goofy.

None of it actually looks like what you would expect a hunter to be in.

Doesn’t help that were only two tier sets per raid back then and most of them were hot garbage. I do like some newer sets from legion and the first 2 bfa pvp sets.

I haven’t paid much attention since I switched mains early in Wrath but I liked some of the early sets (though the helms were hit and miss).

To be honest the only hunter gear that looks ok is really the pvp stuff from Wrath and some of the Legion stuff.

Very few Raid tier stuff looks that good but I must say the SoO hunter set does work on a goblin < Kind of give them the Marvin the Martian aesthetic.

fits hunter fantasy, wanna be pretty - play paladin, wanna be edgy - play death knight. Wanna look like you killed a murloc and used him as your armor - that’t hunter

That entire tier had some downright PHENOMENAL transmog for basically every class.

Mail seems to be the last sets done most of the time, so the artists presumably use up all their ideas elsewhere. There are a handful of Druid/Rogue sets that would’ve looked good on a Hunter if the concept went in a slightly different direction.

Imagine Bearmantle without the Elune symbolism, or if Haunted Forest leaned more into making it look like bark-skin camouflage, or if Dashing Scoundrel was less “Highway Bandit” and more “Woodsman.”

Alas, if any of those designs were used for Hunters, it would mean that Druids and Rogues would’ve gotten the short end of the stick for a tier or two. Still, part of me wishes that Blizz would let classes make use of a second armor type for transmog just so I could use that Bearmantle helm.

Silly hunter mail armor is supposed to be a collection of miscellaneous npc parts.

Eh i kinda like the whole “armor made from monsters” thing. Although I wouldn’t mind if Blizz studies a bit of Monster Hunter World armor for inspiration.

Yeah I was never able to find a set for my hunter.

But Blizz has a history of making amazing Hunter Tier Sets!

Just two examples!
