Hey guys! I had always mained a Blood Dk, decided i wanted to try out a Gaurdian Druid. Fell in love with it, I just feel invincible. I don’t really ever tank in raids so mostly talking about dungeons. The AoE is awesome, aggro is great, mitigation is great, self heal is great when needed, utility is great!
I have achieved a high enough ilvl to where i kinda get bored, so I decided to level my 98 Maghar orc Prot Warrior. I understand it is not max level, and super geared, but I feel so reliant on the healer, and i don’t feel the mitigation is as great. Plus it seems a little more difficult to keep aggro on a large pull, also notice my health depletes a good bit quicker.
I know I need to get to running M+ with him before really judging the difference, but was just wondering the community’s thoughts on why top M+ prefer Prot War over Bears.
Go Bears!
- Warriors deal the most dmg - a case could be made for paladins.
- Spell reflect is OP.
- Block tanks are superior due to being able to soak predictable amounts of damage, warriors much more so due to shield block.
- Warrior have more tools, such as shock wave, demo shout and their interactions with ignore pain & victory rush.
Bears are based around high hp values and increased healing received, not mitigation, aside from ironfur armor. This makes them real good at soaking slow predictable damage, aka raid tanking. Mythic plus simply has too many damage sources coming in at once to be effectively mitigated. Earthwarden talent on guardian helps with this, but not anywhere near as effectively as having a shield.
And magic damage? Forget about it.
If you’re having threat issues on a warrior, you’re just not playing it effectively. TClap into revenge should be more than enough to hold aggro.
What people don’t really know or don’t talk about is that bears are the best kite tanks hands down, with Ursols ,Typhoon, and the AoE intimidate.
But why bring a bear when you can have a resto druid with baseline Ursols and Typhoon, and bring a warrior?

Valid points and thank you for the reply! I don’t ever have big trouble keeping aggro on my Prot, just seem to notice a dps peeling one off of me more often than when im on my bear. Also, I have not yet become super efficient with my Prot warrior, so I know I have some things to learn on him. Dont get me wrong though, I see the potential in Prot. I was just wondering what everyone else thought.
Plus, we get a pretty neat shield which can come in handle when you are waiting for the bus in the rain or need a place to set your snacks on your lap.
