Why do Covenant Abilities/Restrictions remove player agency?

It looks like the difference is that you were stating it as some kind of fact - they’re just clarifying it’s an opinion.

It’s the reason that makes the most sense next to forcing players to create more characters of the same class.

Still can’t test the covenant abilities as a healer. When Blizzard says we will be able to play with the ability as we level they are in fact wrong. You cannot test the ability as a healer while leveling because dungeons play totally different from raids. So now healers will be stuck in a slow process of switching covenants at max level when trying to figure out how they would like to play. Just unlock the abilities so we can switch without punishment.

There’s already a shortage of healers / tanks don’t make it worse.

Very true . I’ve been thinking that when we select our covenants is far too soon. Using the abilities during leveling is way different than using them in the challenging M+/Raid/Arena content.

exactly.

Any content I am doing I like to do my best for my team. Be it gear, spec or talent choices.

but you always had the power to make any choice as meaningful as you want.

You could never switch specs, never change talents deciding everything your character does is written in stone and no player can FORCE you to change. They can ask you to or deny you entrance to their group but that doesn’t mean they can stop you

People only have power over you if you give it to them

What you are looking for is to FORCE the choice to matter to others as much as you want it to matter to you when as I said, you can already do that that since the game launched in vanilla on forward.

That is a false narative; it is like saying vendors should sell mythic quality gear… you can simply choose not to buy it if you want to play the game and earn it.

Choices should matter. Rules and restrictions are what make choices matter. Too much flexibility has been added to the game. Today every class is every spec, everyone is everything and it has water downed the game.

that’s a slippery slope retort if I ever heard one.

No, because gear is a reward and how your character obtains set gear has been a choice. Being able to modify the character in pursuit of said gear was also a choice up till now

That is my point, the person whom I was quoting was saying you should remove all covenant restrictions but if you want to play “RPG-style” the player could simply self-enforce the restrictions. This does not work.

Effort Matters, Gear matters, Choices matter; this my point. Giving everything to everyone waters down the game.

I disagree.

Roll back 100 years. Getting a divorce was a huge restriction - and it made the “choice” of staying in a relationship not matter.

Today people can get divorced whenever they want without it being a social stigma. That’s made the choice to stay in a relationship actually matter.

Doing something when you don’t have to means more than doing that thing when there’s restrictions in place preventing you from doing otherwise.

The covenant restrictions also prevent choices that matter from even happening.

It does work. It works today.

There are tons of guilds and communities that play with RP mindsets in retail TODAY.

There are people that take it as far as not using flying, transmog, etc.

Their choice to not use those things matters to them. That’s why they make that choice.

No one is asking for covenants to be given to them. They’re still happy to earn the rewards from each covenant. They just want the opportunity to earn each of the rewards and then switch to use the rewards they’ve earned (not been given).

you want to punish people … for trying hard?
are you a communist?

Not a communist at all. Just a fan of this system that’s being created.

sounds more like a mythic raider hurt your feelings and you just wanna be able to rub some salt in it …

you want to punish people … for trying hard?

people, that try hard at different things, should be punished?

nevermind, i think i’ll have a more intelligent conversation with a flat-earther.

Incorrect.

I enjoy seeing others punished for trying hard.

I’m not the one actually doing the punishing.

Choices should not matter with rentals. Yeah I said it.

Choices matter when you can make choices.

It doesn’t matter if you lose the options or if the options become irrelevant after the expansion. The choices matter in the moment, when you’re running content with your group.

Choices don’t matter if Blizz can erase it with a patch.

I don’t get why you people are so hung up on a choice mattering

it’s like the weakest reason ever to gimp the game this hard

one is meaningful and one is fun, guess which one is going to be more important

if you want role playing talk to your girlfriend about it
