Why do Blizzard devs nuke cool abilities before they even TRY tuning them?

Why does Blizzard not have any middle ground when it comes to tuning? Its either nothing, or nuke it completely. They cry when they have to tune something that’s RNG because RNG is generally hard to tune, and then go and make EVERYTHING RNG…
They took something cool, getting a lot of overfiends and doomguards, and nuked them. Yay, now we get 4% haste instead of an awesome flaming demon that shoots chaos bolts, great trade off.
And as far as doom goes, does anyone actually enjoy tab targeting and essentially multi dotting dooms? Especially when the proc chance is so low.
In the blue post they mentioned doing it to “reduce the increased number of actions per minute we observed during playtesting” which is dumb, because on Beta the only playtesting we’ve had is in Normal and Heroic dungeons, where everything dies after 5-10 seconds. They didn’t even nerf any numbers before nuking the ability, so the data they were basing their decision off of was the overtuned and buggy data. What kind of brain dead developer makes huge sweeping changes based on pre-tuned data??
So bottom line, if the mobs weren’t dying in 5-10 seconds, there wouldn’t be an excessive amount of actions per minute. It would be literally one extra button every 10ish seconds, until the end of the fight when everything is dying, and then you’ll press Doom maybe 3-5 extra times. We can handle that.
Final thoughts; RNG sucks, ruins the fun. And multi dotting is lame, especially on a class thats all about cleave. Shouldn’t have to multi dot an ability that doesn’t even do damage until it expires.

The other option would have been to make it almost never proc. Not sure that would have been much better.

I’m actually pretty excited for a potential Doom build with the new passive version.
Although I do mostly play Affliction so DoTs are more my jam.

How is that not a lot to you? A talent being one in every ten button presses seems excessive to me.

Personally the Overfiends and a ton of Doomguards was a little Arcady for me. But I was also unaware of a change to AOD? Unless there’s a Demo Overfiend talent I’m unaware of? Demo’s my least played spec but again, the passive Doom build is actually interesting to me.

Doom passive? why dont bring back “hand of doom”?

There are definitely more than just those 2 options. Even if it just gave the free Chaos Bolt / Rain of Fire without the Overfiend it would still be better than 2 stacks of Flashpoint. Almost anything would be less boring than 2 stacks of Flashpoint IMO.

One button every 10 seconds really isn’t that much, most of the spec is pretty AFK outside of Tyrant windows. The only reason it felt a little hectic was at the very end of a fight with trash mobs, having to cast Doom every other spell. But honestly if they took out Implosion, or changed it to be passive, I think people would love the playstyle of Doom as a pressable button. Again, just in my opinion, but it really was a lot of fun!

The Overfiends might have been a bit excessive for Destruction, since Destro isn’t really a “pet spec”, but for Demonology having more is better. That’s the whole point, you’re a master summoner, and so far it’s largely just been imps and dogs, not much variation. Now we finally had a relatively consistent thing we could summon, and with variety in how often we could summon it (when things were dying), but now we don’t have any direct control over when they spawn, or how many.
As for AoD, that’s still the same. You’ll get an Overfiend every 10 shards spent, it’s the Hero Talent they changed where now instead of giving us a free Chaos Bolt/Rain of Fire we get 2 stacks of Flashpoint instead.

sounds like the weekly affliction pvp talent gutting
