Why do arena players feel any sense of superiority or smugness?

Can some of you weigh in here? Why is there so much trash talk in what is essentially an afterthought mode in a dying mmo? What psychological illnesses do you have? Let’s have a civil discussion.

We have elitism the same as pve elitism?

Not even sure what your point is.
IO = rating for pve and it’s the same in lfg for both m+ and arenas lol

Maybe just get some thicker skin, Holmes.

I’m only 1800 but I get called elitist for trying to tell a warrior he doesn’t have to use his trinket for sap…take that for what you will I guess lol

Are you saying it’s something exclusive to PVP players? PVE community has the same issues. Also, dying mmo… Sure, it’s been dying longer then most MMO have ever existed. It’s been dying since wrath at it’s peak.

You can’t have a civil discussion when you’re comment is already laced with poison.

Damn, was my first thought. You beat me to it haha.

This is actually an interesting point. Elitism is somewhat subjective. Some people take criticism worse than others.

However I will say that some people are very obviously entitled and toxic. However, despite your entire post (OP) being rhetorical, I’ll indulge anyway. People are going to act like that because not only is it competitive, it’s competition amongst others players. Of course it’s going to bring out the worst in people.

Also… it’s not really a dying mmo. Less players than it used to, but still miles ahead of any other mmo.

I guess my point was that, at the lower ranks where you’re more likely to find new to pvp players (and casuals like me) people seem very prone to take offense to constructive criticism. I’m used enough to the newer generation of gamers that any advice I try to hand out is in the most passive / friendly manner I can manage as well, and it’s still mostly met with vitriol lol.

I can’t speak to higher end obviously, but this has been more or less my experience in lower lfr brackets. Even players hard stuck at low 1400 that you try to help out seem to take any advice as a personal attack. It’s not all, but definitely most.

That is true, I was playing with a 1900 priest and told him to do y during x. He told me off that I didn’t play his class and should focus on my own play which is fair, but no one seems to want to be told what to do.

I also like how he blasted me when his highest is 2k.

Yeah I mean, I hear ya. You’re not wrong, but this is just, in my experience, how all people are. No one likes being corrected, no one likes criticism, no one admits when they do something wrong and no one likes admitting others are better. Of course “no one” is hyperbolic but, it’s true more often than not; again, in my experience.

I only assume that being pvp oriented, vice pve, exacerbates this phenomenon, for the aforementioned reasons.

100% fair enough, just seems to be be worse than I remember, but that’s a whole different conversation lol

What’s up with all these trolls lately? The quality is getting real low.

OP, I give you 2/10

Honestly, I turn the question back on you.

because by being an arena player Im automatically and objectively better at PVE than you

I think it’s unhealthy to try and look for justifications for the bad behaviour of these people. You can spend a long time thinking up convoluted excuses for them, but it comes at the cost of your own emotional labour. In gaming, as in real life, there has to be a self driven desire to change when it comes to your own behaviour. A simple one-line zinger, or a copypasta famous quote, even if it does trigger some kind of emotional epiphany, is not going to change anyone’s behaviour in the long run.

Ultimately the best thing you can do if you’re feeling worn out by these same kinds of people, by their seeming inability to have any sort of civil discussion free from egotism, passive aggression, overt aggression, emotional manipulation, swears, slurs, or insults, is just to put them on your ignore list and move on. For the sake of your own mental health.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to once again urge the forum moderation team to reinstate the Ignore User function on the new forums that we used to have on the old forums.

here’s the thing buddy, having an ego in a video game you’re good at isn’t uncommon. even pvers in this game have egos. if you’re too fragile to take criticism and improve, then maybe you’re playing the wrong game.

take care friend, your friendly NO ILLNESS decepticon

There are just some people out there with, shall we say, poor social skills/anger issues.

Communicating better helps a lot though…i made a point when i first did arena with this character to put in LFG that i was new to arena/MW…therefore setting expectations low and being honest about my skill level.

I also make a point to at least say ‘hey’ to my party members…so many dont say anything and just queue…they have no interest in building any kind of rapport and they are typically more likely to just rage quit.

It is also frustrating when people are dishonest about things ilke their cr/xp…that leads to abuse.

It really is quite simple to do but so many players don’t bother.
