Question is in the title. What Disc priest has that other don’t that make them such a great choice for a healer?

Shields ignore dampening.
Edit: This is wrong info, shields are actually affected by dampening as well, thanks to all who corrected me.

besides being simply overtuned (their healing numbers are higher than they should be) right now, it is exarcebated by the fact that they have good dampening tools which ultimately wins them games in solo shuffle, for example:
- Damage reduction on targets with shields.
- Double pain suppression.
- Constant self damage reduction when targeted. This makes them a bad kill target most of the time unless they’re really out of position and bad.
- Can output respectable damage, which helps overwhelm other healers in shuffle in late dampening.
For 3s it’s really just overtuned healing, they’re easily healing 20-30% more than other healers right now
Also, they never OOM, probably because their heals are busted right now

I was under the impression the shield we’re also reduced by dampening.
I think that shields are reduced by dampening too, it’s just damage reduction which is core to disc that makes them good in late dampening since mitigating damage and dealing damage becomes more valuable than healing damage

Disc is the path of least resistance for healers to get rating.

Shields are effected by dampening, but NOT mortal strike effects.
An important and relevant distinction.
Shields, in most situaitons, end up being better than raw hps because they ignore ms effects and are often larger in value than baseline heals. Further, they have a preemptive healing component whete if you toss a shield (especially one empowered by prem or W&W) before a cc, you can often save a trinket or defensive cd.
There is the tradeoff that they can be purged, but most purges atm have longer cds/significant mana costs and there are several trash buffs on every class so they’re not as reliable.
Finally, shields give a higher effective hp than raw hps which allows the priest to have more globals to do damage, cc, or just catch up on heals!

Oh sorry, I thought shields were not affected!
3-4 trash debuffs everytime a shield goes up or earthshield + riptide is not fun, I’ll purge until oom and still not get buffs I want off

Listen to nasra. You can get way in the weeds with specific builds and abilities and what not but this is what it really comes down to.

No. Mortal strikes do not impact absorbs. Dampening does. You can test it pretty easily!
There’s a movement in the boosting cabal where they recently recruited 500+ r1s to gatekeeping as disc priest it works like this if you try to play shuffle as a healer you will always 0-6 this way it funnels people to the boosting websites I saw a screenshot of this guild bank with 1000m gold in it they claim it’s because 90% of all 1800 armor sets are from boosted carry since all who fight the fisc priests give up so easily. I personally refuse to give them my gold that’s why I play warlock for my armor but others are not so powerful. I was also told big YouTubers put subliminal ad in their video that tricks people to buying a boost/cause anxiety when they see disc priest
