Why didn't Kael'thas want to become King?

I’ve read the wiki page for Kael’thas and it says that he refused take become the King of Quel’thalas once his father died, the problem is they never said why.

Is the wiki page missing some information that I should know about? Or is this Blizzard screwing up when writing Warcraft’s story?

Because… reasons

He declared Anasterian was forever the last king of Quel’Thalas, so kept his title of Prince instead of formally becoming King.

While WoW did change the consequences considerably, but during Warcraft III?

… there wasn’t exactly much of Quel’thalas left standing.

He did it for Jaina she had a thing for Princes not Kings.

To quote Jon Snow: “I dun’ want it”

Out of respect for his father, who gave his life in a fight against Arthas.

He was really emo about the whole Arthas killing his dad thing.

I truly regret that I have but one like to give to this gem. Well done Sir, well done.

It was out of respect for his father. Kael’thas was very much the “king” in every way except the actual title

He was a playboy that wanted chicks and magic. And Jaina.

And for the later part - king needs a kingdom, not ruined city. He wanted to get steady resource of magic for his people first. Failed.

To be fair, with the amount of territory Quel’thalas had under its control after WarCraft III consisting of some rubble and half a city, I think you could logically declare that the “Kingdom” of Quel’thalas had been downgraded to a “Principality.”
