Seems strange to me.
Because instead of having a realistic world, Blizzard went with the rigid two faction system and had to put them somewhere.
Maybe they should have took the High elves instead of the Night elves .
The Night elves should have been neutral faction. I mean everything including war - it’s against they nature .
Why a race wich were immortal… old and wise would follow the orders from Human leaders?
In Lore (at the start) the Orcs killed Cenarius so that bred a bit of resentment.
Also the ongoing war in Warsong Gulch where the Horde started chopping trees (which is a nono in tree-hugging hippy circles) kind of drove them to side with the Alliance.
Then Blizzard decided to make Night Elves cannon fodder like their Troll ancestors
Didn’t it have something to do with the Battle of Hyjal?
They can’t even get their lore straight.
Went from having Broxigar, the orc war hero to the Night Elves. To Night Elves going “what’s an orc!? Kill this thing!”
I dont think thats correct bro. Look at wc3 night elves (not to mention the wars they fought) and they are actually pretty combative. In truth night elves have probably fought more than any race given their origin date.
Also wc3 night elves were pretty damn vicious. Plus they had a prison warden order. You dont do that as hippies xD.
It’s probably one of those “if you seek peace, prepare for war” types of things. The Night Elves love their hippy shtick, but they couldn’t have survived for as long as they have without becoming exceptionally good at doing bad things to bad people.
After they lost their immortality, they had even more incentive to learn how to survive.
Yea. Id argue tho that the highborne werent the same mindset wise. They were combative as they pretty much invited the legion into azeroth to conquer it.
After immortality was lost i think is when they adopted the more peaceful way. Again though lets not forget all the wars the night elves and zandalaar trolls had.
Without the Alliance, the Night Elves would’ve been wiped out, simply because their base is too close to Orgrimmar.
Didn’t a single Orc warrior demolished their Demigod?
All the night elves had to do was communicate to the orcs that what they’re doing isn’t sustainable and teach them magic and techniques to grow sustainable housing like the night elves. It would’ve made much more sense for night elves to join the horde. They only didn’t because of lack of/poor communication. Orcs chop down trees to make a home. Night elves slaughter orcs. Orcs slaughter night elves. Alliance come and is like YO WE EXIST! Then Archimonde is like YO I EXIST. Then all 3 groups team up to beat up Archimonde and they form a truce/treaty. Then for an unknown reason between the end of Wc3 and beginning of vanilla WoW relations between the night elves and horde got soured and they joined the alliance. But even if they didn’t join the horde joining the alliance didn’t make much sense either. It’s purely a gameplay thing that is incredibly unlikely from Wc3 lore standpoint. They either would’ve worked things out with the orcs/horde or became reclusive again.
Because reasons
Like Night Elves joining the Alliance makes no sense like the Alliance are on the other side of Azeroth and the Humans have a history of Elf Racism like if I was to guess probably gameplay reasons with the Alliance needing a 4th race or something.
Because of the mentality of the past.
Horde> Evil and ugly races.
Alliance> Good guys and pretty races. (Thus I doubt gnomes are pretty, but whatever.)
Broxigar was not originally there, as Blizzard sent him and a human back in time, since they couldn’t handle not having Humans and Orcs being heroic in big achievements in the game such as the War of the Ancients.
After that and any lore in World of Warcraft is just an obliteration after obliteration of a once very powerful race. And now they’re losing the most powerful leader.
Originally supposed to have 4 factions. If we never got WoW as an MMO and only got back to back WC RTS then we would still have the RTS with 4 factions. 4 Factions would not work good with this MMO.
probably had something to do with the orcs killing cenarius
You play wc3?
High elves were a part of the alliance since wc2.
Lord Garithos in wc3 a human lord was a racist and locked up the highelves.
Illidan sent his followers to break them out. The high elves then became blood elves and then took on some demonic taint / became addicted to magic like a drug.
A portion broke away from illidan in tbc and then aligned with the horde because of their recent affiliation to the legion and their current methods of dealing with magic.
At release, they had to imprison a Naruu to steal the light from it to make paladins.
Those ideals didn’t match with the alliance anymore.
To me nightelves could have been a faction all together based on the size of the race at the end of wc3, but good guys versus bad guys was the theme of wow vanilla.
