This makes no sense at all. WotLK was the most popular expansion ever. Of course lots of people are going to come back to play it. Blizzard should have waited until things settled down after launch before deciding to shut down servers.
Servers are fine. Most of those were dead realms and that wasn’t going to change with wrath release.
Here are the facts. Pre-Patch before TBC saw an influx of players that lead to ques on many of the mega servers. MOST of those ques were gone within a month.
The wrath pre-patch is going to be x100 more popular than actual wrath launch. Nobody is waiting to come back for launch day when they can start leveling DK’s during pre-patch.
Many people are going to quit in the next month and ques won’t be much of an issue at all long term.
Servers would be in an even worst state long term if blizzard didn’t remove them before wrath. You’d have hundreds of posts of people complaining about being on a dead realm.
It still looks bad having queues like this right after shutting down a bunch of servers.
I don’t think them shutting down caused this. I feel they had MANY inactive accounts that were connected to these mega realms and the merger came because many DEAD realms needed to be consolidated.
This was true. However even with the halting of transfers to these mega servers you can still create new characters there and they have now seen a resurgence of these inactive accounts.
Combine that with the new hype the loss of Retail appeal and the changing of seasons… Soon things will balance out tho.
You’re worried about the optics? Such a silly thread.
Reality is no one wants to play on dead servers. Case in point, players have an option for a free transfer from overpopulated servers right now and the transfer is largely being unused.
Blizzard did the right thing by closing off the dead realms that had no chance of revival.
The people that played on those servers don’t effect the queue on mega servers. This post makes no sense
servers were dead
literally dead
If the queues go on long enough, people will transfer. They need servers to transfer to though, and Blizzard shut most of them down.
There are plenty of servers that have no queue. Also no one is going to transfer off a mega server. This will last 2 or 3 weeks into wrath and then everyone else will be complaining about not finding a dungeon while mega servers continue to prosper.
If they added lfd there would be incentive to play a dead realm but as of right now you would be a fool to transfer.
Give it a chance. Still have a few weeks of prepatch to work it out.
They shouldn’t have. The servers they nuked were DEAD… Like 50 people MAYBE online. Wrath was not bringing them back. The server they sent them ALL to, Sulfuras, has maybe 1k players on it. That has nothing to do with queues…
Because they were all dead… obviously.
Those server were all alive and well until 40k+ people paid $25 each to play on one server.
Amazing how that didn’t work out for them
Yea, because there are probably a lot of people who have more than 1 character they’ve invested time into and don’t want to split them up because they each have utility for one another. Of course people aren’t using the 1 free character transfer.
most dead servers had 20 people on them at peak times, wrath prepatch wasn’t going to make the thousands of people who transferred off re-appear
People transfer to mega servers then complain about queues…
I’d rather deal with short term queues vs dead servers.
And before someone argues a server with 2k people on it isn’t dead, something something back in my day that was the average size of a server.
yes - and it used to take forever to form groups the old fashioned way which led to demand for a random dungeon finder, and LFR ect ect. With 24k people you can find groups at nearly any time of day, the AH is constantly active.
I’ve been on Grobbulus since day 1 of Classic, and it certainly wasn’t a mega server back then. Blizzard never should have let people keep transfering to full servers.
You want the benefit of instantly selling items on the ah and finding groups at 4am, you have to deal with the consequences. I play on yojamba oceanic, there is no queues, the ah is fine, I can find groups whenever I want. I do play at regular times for my server though, but I’m pretty sure all 24k+ players on your server aren’t there so they can do completely off peak time dungeons.
That’ll change considering how quickly the pop is dropping week to week on that server…but have fun with no queues I guess
Why do there have to be consequences in a video game that we’re all just trying to have fun playing?
