Vivendi sold out their shares purely to get out of the video game industry (and really the US in general)
They were gods of the pc community. Nintendo overall is consider the gods of gaming.
The creation of Medan bankrupted Blizzard!
And blizzard was owned by other companies at least a decade before World of Warcraft was ever a thing.
Their original share holder’s company was taken over when Activision bought majority shares in them… blizzard didn’t merge with, sell to or anything… they got bought out by the real world form of trade prince goblins.
Technically they didn’t. Blizzard was/is owned by Vivendi. Vivendi is the company that merged with Activision creating the parent company activision-blizzard. Vivendi is (or at least was, idk if they still are) the majority shareholder and agreed that kotic would be the CEO.
You are correct.
Somewhat right, but Activision didn’t buy majority shares, Vivendi still held on to that for a bit, it was a merger, not a buyout.
“Wow I can’t believe a multibillion media company would merge with another multibillion media company.”
Activision took over controlling interest years ago . Vivendi is no longer in the picture.
If memory serves Blizzard was owned by Vivendi at the time. For whatever reason Vivendi decided to sell the Blizzard division/asset to Activision. Everything is history after that. Oh the price of selling your creative soul for corporate gains.
Money. Activision bought Blizzard, they did not merge with Blizzard.
I heard sonewhere that they wanted to go global, but didn’t have the platform/resources to make it happen. Activision did.
Either way, maybe we should stop blaming activision, since the guys who founded the game made the decision to sell out.
Ask the starving artist while they’re starving if they would like to have a rich patron set them up in a swanky loft with all the resources necessary to create their masterpiece, and tell them the deal is you get to make a suggestion here and there.
You’d be amazed how many “creatives souls” will sell out for corporate gains right quick.
Pretty much all of them. People need to eat and you can’t eat art…
That banana taped to canvas is not f*ing art!
Because ActivisionBlizzard, by becoming bigger and stronger, they can “Eclypse” the competition!
tee hee…
… its Money.
Some of the founders wanted to retire rich.
Believe they are called gameloft now, or something like that. Mobile games I guess.
