Why did Blizzard get rid of Garrisons again?

Seriously. I remember liking it a lot.

Because people were just living there 24/7 and never leaving for anything but dungeons and raids.

Mind you, that was pretty much just because they didn’t implement any incentives to leave the garrison… there was even a built in mine and herb garden, and could get your own auction house…

Pretty much they focused too much on having a reward structure in place for garrisons, and less about fun and customization.

High development cost meant that to keep Garrisons would be relevant would be to make them continuously central to gameplay to justify how much resources they suck up.

All xpac features are left behind to rot in their expansions. From garrisons to artifact weapons to covenant abilities. Blizz creates blizz…doesn’t take away they just leave it to rot.

Garrisons are still awesome, my only changes would be adding more portals to them (SW portal, Valdrakken portal) and letting the profession peeps from valdrakken come visit you in your garrison and teaching the garrison profession peeps how to help you.

It was very VERY anti social

Cause it became a stupid mobile game waiting for buildings to finish orders everyday with
0 reason to ever leave garrison aside from raid/dungeons. No one liked them in the end.

That’s not true.

Heck, we got the awesome system of renown from Shadowlands thrown right back into the melting pot.

I think they should bring something similar back but as a new 2ndary Profession Hub.

For Example outside of Stormwind you can build a

Farm: Grow Vegies/trees (for cooking) by capturing seeds around the world and planning a garden.

Animal farm: Capture animals from around the world and put them in your farm and you can kill them for meat or harvest eggs etc. (for cooking)

Aquarium: Build a pond and capture fish from around the world and you’re able to harvest the fish.

This would allow you to have your own space (like housing and phased) but you wont spend too much time there as its only for that profession.

It will always be relevant too since you can always change the plants/animals/fish from the new expansions. Or plant old expansion stuff for mats to sell in the AH.

I agree - something like the garrison but not exactly. Until Dragonflight, I rarely would go back to the main cities except to go through the portal rooms. I use my garrison because I have an Auction bot and bank there.

I think they should let the gardens grow based on the seeds you bring back from new areas. There are so many things. You fail at growing something because you need to cultivate your garden for new content. The basic things. Mining may not be as easy.

Some content won’t translate, because they are not on Azeroth but then we could have the option to introduce new stuff to Azeroth.

The only thing different I would like in my garrison is a private, separate storage area. This would allow us to have some freedom with books, keys, and other crap. So many people get their 10 best friends to use their alts to start and join new Guilds for the purpose of having extra bank storage.

The garrison or something like it, provides some quiet time, allowing you to do crafts, etc… You don’t even have to do missions once you get all the achievements. It would be nice to see them upgraded to use today’s content, if possible, and within the storyline. Or at least something comparable, without the extremely tedious task to get them.

The player housing lobby also poisoned their own chalice with the whole thing.

With the constant
GARRISONS ARE NOT HOUSING - GARRISONS ARE UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I wish they’d remember garrisons exist and actually improve them or add more to them. They’d easily cover the desire for player housing/guild housing, if Blizz hadn’t just abandoned them like they abandon every other new system they introduce in an expansion.

At least give us more junk to use Resources on. I’m constantly capped out on them just idly tending my garden, mine, and mission table. I have to buy stuff off the trading post or those rush order scrolls just to get rid of them. They focused more on apexis rewards instead of resource rewards. :dracthyr_cry_animated:

This just isn’t true. The player housing advocates were beating the drum that entire 2 years that garrisons “aren’t player housing” and that garrisons were unacceptable as a substitute.

To this day, you bring up garrisons in a player housing discussion and you’ll get bombarded with “GARRISONS WERE NOT HOUSING”.

And it’s like… okay, then, there won’t be housing. Hope you guys are happy.

It wasn’t designed to be player housing the only customization were monuments that did next to nothing. If Blizzard shipped Garrison as player housing it would of been terrible, players just calling it how it is - a crap player housing if that was what it was intended for.

Players are looking for a Sims type of sandbox housing with a huge selection of customization. There are player housing in other games that let’s you dye your furniture a certain colour, that’s what people want and not a makeshift abandoned project.

It laid a nice foundation for player housing if they were to build on it, off the top of my head being able to choose where your housing is located is a great start.

Frostfire Ridge and Shadowmoon Valley are both very meh choices for housing…

They prioritized on this ^

When players are looking for customizations like this ^ that make their housing unique.

The Garrison just fell short as it wasn’t designed for that purpose in the first place hence the 2 years of complaint.

what are you trying to say here?

I’m saying the Garrison wasn’t designed for player housing hence the lack of customization that players like yourself want IF there was a proper player housing system in WoW.

You should be able to customize it however you want, add whatever node you want, choose what herbs you want etc etc.

You missed the first part of my post with your quote. They could easily cover this desire, if Blizz remembered they exist and actually bothered to do anything to improve or add on to them! As they are, no, they aren’t anything remotely close to what most want out of player housing - but the framework is there, and could be improved upon. That’s what I think, anyway.

I still enjoy my garrison, as it’s my own little place in the game to just vibe in when I don’t want to be in town. I’d just like more to do with it, and further ability to customize it beyond just picking buildings I want with no variation to their appearance or interior or anything.

Speak for yourself! I love Shadowmoon Valley and Lunarfall, personally. Very much my aesthetic. :dracthyr_love_animated: Though I agree with the sentiment of wanting more areas for personal housing/places like garrisons. I remember hearing that was meant to have been in the game - picking where the garrison was - but it got cut.

the garrison was fine they might of actually turned it into more of a housing thig if people were throwing a fit its not housing as well as so many garrisons ruined wow why would they keep them when everyone threw a fit about them why waste time on something and make it better. i personally don’t want housing here when all i see is people whining for the same thing other games have nothing new and exciting just turn every game the same.

Pretty much comes down to this ^

You can’t pass off Garrison as player housing as it falls so short from what it is suppose to be and what players actually wanted.

This is why we need to be able to choose where our housing is, when I think housing I’m thinking Sunshine warm summer and the beach

They aren’t tho.

It is just another case of Blizzard and the Monkey paw.

This is what is happening here. People wanted player housing. A spot in a major city they could decorate and call their own. Maybe even invite someone else into.

Blizzard gave us a system that is not very customizable and is another grind integral to that expansion only. This is not what folks asked for.
