So this thought occurred to me thinking about an Arthas redemption story. If you all remember, Muradin Bronzebeard was the one who tells Arthas that the blade is cursed.
"Whomsoever takes up this blade shall wield power eternal. Just as the
blade rends flesh, so must power scar the spirit."
With the new information we have that Frostmourne is inscribed with Maw runes, is Muradin’s translation to Arthas retconned?
Edit: I thought I came up with some cool theory, but I guess not. I found that “The Frostmourne Pedestal had Kalimag written on the dais. Apparently, Muradin Bronzebeard can read Kalimag”
Kalimag is the language of elementals.
I would not think so. The Bronzbeards have been excavating and studying all sorts of relic over thousands of years. I am sure they have discovered other relics with shadowlands language on it.
Afterall, the mortal realm KNOWS of the Shadowlands. So its just something they might know from the years and years of study.

The inscription Muradin read was actually on the dais, the small platform holding Frostmourne, not the blade itself. As Ner’zhul sent it there he probably used a common language for others to read.

Did he read the runes on the blade or an inscription where the blade rested?
Was that engraved specifically on Frostmourne itself? Or was that warning on, perhaps, whatever was housing the blade, written after it came to Azeroth from the Maw?
Muradin is clearly a Dreadlord.

Wait, hold up. Dwarves only started excavating and studying relics recently.
You’re right. It was on the platform holding Frostmourne.

Clearly, he and Jaina were trying to control Arthas after all
But he’s a friendly Dreadlord like Casper the friendly ghost.
What? Have you seen our libraries? It is a part of Dwarf culture.
What are you referring to?

Because when Muradin read those runes, they weren’t maw runes.

In the video you link it just says that they shifted their focus from mining to Archaeology. Not that they only started with Archaeology recently.

Well I see what you are getting at.
However, the intro does say for countless generation. And only after finding some runes that speak to our history did Magni change the focus.
BUT we don’t have a clear time frame of when that was. And the amount of quests and libraries and fact that Magni, and Bran could understand the ancient machines of the titans point to the fact that they have a very deep understanding.
Mind you I am speaking as a proud Dwarf.
But this could all be a retcon too
For countless Generations they mined deep into the earth for treasure and riches. But what does it matter. Blizzard can’t even keep their own story straight half the time.
Don’t forget there be three clans of mighty dwarves. And the new chronicles state that the dwarves were excavating before the third war resulting in the Gnomeregan disaster.
From Arthas : Rise of the Lich King
“Aye, I thought I recognized this. It’s written in Kalimag-the elemental language.”
