Why Competitive Minded Players Hate Blizzard Apologists

Having been here on this GD for about a whole two minutes I think there is something that needs addressed, and that is why anyone who has a competitive mindset towards this game dislikes the casual player base that are also Blizzard apologists.

See, the forums for awhile were always a place for people to come and share ideas on what could make the game better, how to play it better, and to just socialize. I know this because I played this game since it came out and I’m still here. I’ve always played this game competitively too. Since I downloaded my first DPS meter I was trying to be first on it. In PVP I trive to do well each season now. I’ve raided in guilds that pushed hard mode before mythic was a thing. If I apply myself to something I can usually place myself in the top 1-5% which I consider to be pretty decent. At the very least it is competitive.

You don’t have to be me. That’s okay. You can be a casual. You can even have opinions. But god I hate when Blizzard implements something incredibly poorly, like the corruption vendor and echoes, and when someone brings up how it is being implemented poorly, y’all come out of the woodwork saying things like,

“They’re giving you what you want and you’re still complaining!”
“I can’t see the problem here, stop complaining.”
“You must not be participating in the content.”
“You don’t know what you want.”

See these things… they just piss me off. Echoes of Nya’lotha were unobtainable if you had already purchased all your rank 3 essences like I had. Lots of you fail to comprehend what the word unobtainable means so I’ll spell it out for you simply. There is no way, shape, or form, before this hotfix, that I could ever loot a single Echo. None. It was literally impossible. It wasn’t a bug, it was how the system worked. So when I walked into this hotfix behind other players that had offspecs on their main that had been stockpiling these upwards of 40k-80k, I got pretty upset.

You see, 40k-80k is enough to buy every corruption you need pretty much. Now if you’re a casual player, what someone else gets might not matter to you, but if you’re competitive in arena, raiding, or even m+ then that becomes an unfair advantage for someone else to have. It’d be like starting a football match down a player and just going out there with 10 on the field for the first quarter. It’s not realistic for me to farm 40k in a week. I’ll be lucky to get 10k which will buy me two corruptions that I want, not eight.

And like I said, if you’re a casual this probably has no impact on you. That’s great. However, it’s really annoying to have to fend off such stupid remarks when y’all fail to see the problem when it is spelled out for you. It’s really annoying when you just reiterate something the blues say about 5x the drop rate like that is going to magically make up for months of not being able to farm this currency.

So once again I’m asking you to stop for a minute, exit your bubble, and learn that other people play the game differently than you do. That just because they dislike Blizzard’s implementation of a system doesn’t mean they should quit. It doesn’t mean they hate the game. It probably means that person thinks Blizz did a really poor job giving the players what they desired.

They’re giving you what you want and you’re still complaining! I can’t see the problem here, stop complaining. You must not be participating in the content but most importantly, you don’t know what you want.

TLDR: If you disagree with me, you’re a filthy casual!

I think if a player is not enjoying WoW, they should unsub quietly and criticize calmly.

Using rude or “loud” language just clutters argumentative points and instigates unnecessary bickering.

Pay your sub or don’t, it’s that simple.

Most competitive players just play the game. Most people on the forums are casuals, as it goes in game as well.

I see most competitive players as being the Blizzard apologists on the forums anyways.

I’m a casual but I get where you’re coming from.

Looks like you went pretty hardcore to get some great gear and you’re nearly at timed 15s for all your dungeons alongside a decent arena rating too.

It’s fair that you won’t be happy that someone who farms up echoes will be able to reach your level of corruptions or better for significantly less effort.

Always a few eggs you have to break to make an omelette and looks like some of them are yours. Hopefully you’re able to optimise your own corruptions even better now - if you’re truely competitive this change should make you happy.

You are so good at the game you should be back on top in no time at all. You cant tell us how great you are then cry you are at a disadvantage. Use your self proclaimed greatness to rise up.

Hey, since you are so competitive I’ll give you a win… you win biggest whiner of the day. :fireworks: :trophy: :fireworks:

But at this point, what does it matter? The expansion’s basically done for all the hyper competitive people, isn’t it? This whole thing seems like another catch up mechanic for the casuals.

maybe stop viewing the game as an e-sport competition and start viewing it like the MMORPG it was intended to be before Activision started pushing that competition mindset on development

As a player who started as a devoted Raider and PvPer, and then grew to become more casual over time, I have grown to understand something pretty important.

If Blizzard starts catering toward the hardcore crowd, I will not kick and scream and cry about it. But I WILL unsubscribe in a heartbeat.

I’ve been playing since 2006. I love this game just as much as any “hardcore” player. But I don’t feel the need to disparage other players by calling them stupid.

I don’t feel sorry for you. If Blizzard has to choose between my subscription and your subscription, I’d rather they choose ME.

And that’s where competitive players forget that this is a RPG and not a MOBA, there is never going to be balance.

Instead of accepting that, the competitive players all flock to their spread sheets and start bleating day one about how ‘X is op compared to Y’ and then in the next week ‘Y is op compared to X’.

They will never be satisfied. There will always be something that gives them a little more damage on their precious spread sheet. These people have tried killing racials, killed Profession Specializations, and will probably kill Covenants because 10% is so groundbreaking advantageous as they peddle on an infinite treadmill.

Competitive, spread sheet players will always be the shade to WoW’s successes. World First Raiders are a prime example of it. Method pouting because they lost and blaming everything and anything except themselves. Even the fat boomer himself, Preach is still acting like he’s relevant because of it.

Just curious, why do you think an rpg shouldn’t be balanced? Is there some rule to rpgs that i’ve missed that requires some characters to be plain better than others in every way?

I’ve seen plenty of games die off because people quit and the funding dried up. Imo if you have enjoyed the game in the past and now aren’t having as much fun, voicing your opinion is the way to hopefully get changes without watching the game die a slow death.

Competitive is relative. I’m sure the hardcore PvPers would love the game to be built around PvP, but then the mythic raiders complain. Or pet battlers. Or transmog runners. Or people who are really into the auction house.

What bugs me is when people come on and say whatever way you enjoy the game is wrong, because the way I enjoy the game is more important and your fun takes deference to mine.

No RPG is ever balanced like a MOBA. RPG’s are balanced through content, MOBA’s are balanced through stats and gear.

Skyrim is balanced through the content; combat archers are inherently weaker than dual-wielding warriors; who’re weaker than sneak assassins.

Overwatch is balanced through stats; Winston will always have X amount of health; McCree will always do X amount of damage; Ult’s will charge at X rate.

Progression raiders want the MOBA aspect so badly, but don’t realize that balance is poison for an MMO-RPG.

I am not sure why you think the casual player base cares that competitive people hate them.

I sure don’t, I think competitive people are terrible for this game, especially when they aren’t up to the competing part so want the game changed constantly so they can be competitive with others.

I have no idea when that was, that is almost I had to walk 10 miles to school in snow storms each day story.

I have been active on this forum since MoP and even then competitive people were trying to ruin the game for others because the fixes they wanted only helped them.

That’s what he said. Do it without the name calling and insulting, is what he’s saying. When players are angry, they bring their anger here with them and instead of giving genuine criticism they tell Blizzard they need to “fire their sh* devs” and things like that.

I don’t think I ever heard anyone wanting that or asking for that.
