You’re not nearly as intelligent as you believe yourself to be. Don’t flatter yourself… it’s embarrassing.
If people are spending two hours wiping, i think they might need more fiber in their diet…
I think people just don’t get the main reason this will work. It’s not about "nosttalgia’ or any of that nonsense. This is going to be wildly successful. Not with all wow subscribers, but with a ton of people, especially older ones, for a variety of reasons.
1: older players love this type of older game. We don’t have the 24/7 playtime that children have to deal with the current game.
2: People dont fundamentally understand how much gaming has changed in the past 10-20 years. The games today, INCLUDING new WOW are based upon instant gratification, ultimately becoming nothing more than modified versions of first person shooters. Almost all large game designers eventually change their game to cater to a specific type of gamer (children) with zero attention spans.
3: Challenging games appeal to a market. It may not be as big a market as the ‘tween’ games appeal to, but there is still a market. I would wager you could release this, and never expand it never releas any follow up expansions and classic would live on for a decade or more. It will be a completely different experience, even at high end gear levels.
If anything I hope they would not keep “rolling” this into future expansions but simply leave it as classic, period. If they wanted to open up a “burning crusade” server that would exist permanently in that environment that would be equally epic.
Overall, I think some of you fundamentally don’t understand the thirst for this old type of game. There’s a reason why old console game sand old rpg’s are still played even today…they had content, they had “challenge”…it was not easy…everyone didn’t get a trophy…it wasn’t mindless.
Hell, the 19/29 twink communities alone will be enough to keep classic servers open indefinitely. I’d bet money on it.
Possibly but me personally I don’t see them releasing anything beyond Classic.
You’d be a fool to think a game getting hyped for 15 years doesn’t have more players on day 1.
The real test begins 1 month later after the honeymoon phase wears off.
Well, you said they gave no indication that TBC and WotLK were being considered, but they did.
I think they will, since it will make them money (and if they can make money spending fewer resources than say making a new xpac, it makes sense). I am looking forward to it.
Well its not like I wrote it in blood, I just never seen it and still haven’t lol.
I’m not to sure how much money they will make off it since you have to have a sub for retail already to play Classic. They might have some new people to resub but I doubt its in the millions for Classic.
That being said hopefully Classic is a success. I think it will have moderate success but that’s it.
You kept mentioning it, so I thought I’d clear it up.
Now, you have.
I think you’ll be surprised at the following for each of these, as long as they do it right.
I’m not one who thinks the golden era of the game can bring back all the millions of players that they lost at this point (they waited too long IMO), but I think it will be a healthy (and profitable) number.
Oh I don’t think they will lose money on it lol. I just think its going to level off to an average playerbase which should keep it going for awhile just not enough to keep releasing more.
Obviously, I disagree, but why do you think that?
Nostalgia is nice at first but it gets old fast. I just don’t think the WoW playerbase of now is going to like all of the QoL losses and the grind that Classic was supposedly.
That’s why I think you will have an average playerbase if that. Your veteran players that played Classic and still like it and probably some new ones will keep it going for awhile. For every fan that played Classic there are just as many that hate Classic now and say they have no desire to play it again.
I don’t think pservers (Classic ones being the most popular) would have lasted all these years if it was just a nostalgia trip. The people who have been asking for it for over a decade, know what they’re getting into.
While I agree that many retail players probably won’t like it, I think some will be pleasantly surprised.
I’d also add that retail is probably grindier at this point, and not in a good way.
@Kaivex is too busy playing Classic to do forum stuff. The Retail CM’s are bored and playing on the forums
Well saying Classic will fail is painting with a huge brush. What does fail mean to you? Not getting over 15 mil new Subs? Then sure it might. Fizzling out after 5 years? Sure, due to it’s nature. The game is coming back for a reason. They may not headline it or market it heavily. It is a niche market, those who will re-sub for classic will seek it out. On the other end, it will serve as a place to keep retail players busy during any content droughts.
Companies go where the money goes, if classic spreads like a plague and much like it did in it’s prime, you will see quite a bit more attention given to it. Whether that be a wow 2.0 or fresh season releases. Even maybe a BC release.
Either way it is here for a reason and at the end of the day it shows progress. Progress in the name of Blizz actually listening to it’s community and TRYING to deliver.
It does have the potential to make money. What was the all time high sub count? 14 million or so. 14 million times 14.99 = way more than they are making now I would imagine. This is just an experiment to see if the old game will spike enough interest to get some subs back.
One year later. It seems that classic is a big success
He was right lol
If it would to fail it would because it’s 15 year old game with content we have seen already and play 100x over on private servers. People wanted vanilla, they got it, if they don’t play it that’s on them
Man i cant believe classic could fail, especially since retail exists and is fine (arguably)
at least post on your 60 classic toon so that we can take you serious, you play retail. you probably don’t even have a 60. Git 60 or get goin.
