Why Classic Tokens are a GOOD idea

I am a die hard Classic player. I can’t stand BFA and I can’t stand what WoW has become… However, I do not see the world (of warcraft) in black and white. So here is why I think WoW Classic tokens are a good idea:

  1. For starters, it is without a doubt Safe and Secure.
We all know that you don’t buy gold. Great, we love you for that… but the reality is… a great portion of people do… and they do it every week. No bans, no suspensions are made if I were to guess, about 90% of the time. You would ban a good portion of the population if you had to ban every gold farm and gold buyer from the game. Like it or not, most Classic players are in their mid 20s and 30s and have a lot going on in life, and don’t have time to farm gold… but they do have money as a result due to life, so they buy gold from often times, sketchy websites.

  2. Brings me to my second point… players are already buying gold!
Do you really think that the gold inflation from tokens is going to be so catastrophic that is will make the game unplayable? You already have gold selling happening… Plus, while it is inflating gold… it is also deflating gold. With gold tokens, you are able to buy game time with gold. Many players would use this to their advantage so they don’t have to spend money to play… which literally turns gold out of the economy and into play time.

  3. While some would quit, others would play. Some people can’t afford to play WoW due to no job. While I don’t advocate for this in my personal life style… A pay (gold) to play option, would mean they would be able to play… so while some people that are salty would quit, others would join in on the fun of WoW Classic.

  4. They are testing in China first… I bet Blizzard is using China as a test subject for the rest of us. They will see how much it makes an impact on auction house prices and item prices in general. They will see if it works. If it proves to be a great solution, they will likely move it to the EU and US.

  5. It is not like Blizzard is going to make WoW tokens some crazy ratio. If you think a $20 Classic WoW Token is going to get you 10k gold… think again. I don’t know what it would be but if I were to guess… a $20 Classic WoW Token would be equivalent to 250-300g to start. It will gradually rise and fall like any economy.

Cheers!

You buying a token will simply pay for gold farmers game time. They’ll be the only ones buying tokens on the AH.

Because they can farm gold faster than you can earn by selling a token, they will charge you more for goods and materials on the AH.

It’s a win win for the gold farmer. You think tokens will solve your cash flow problem but they won’t. The price of goods will always be one step ahead of the price for a token.

Tokens only work in retail because gold has been accumulating for 10+ years and a larger percentage of the player base has excess gold. Moreover, gold is significantly easier to farm in retail by running old raids on alts.

NO.

For the last damn time.

I’d rather people buy illegally than implement the token.

token will do nothing but increase antisocial behavior and reduce sense of accomplishment of others as Classic actually has a lot of ways to invest to better your character through crafted gear, consumables and t3.

What stops players from trading tokens in retail for gold in classic?

Pay to win is a great way to kill a game. Tokens are a terrible idea.

The thought of playing retail, probably. But nothing other than that, really.

The lack of an official process for doing so.

Money can only do so much. I only keep around 300g static on my toon w/ buying raid consumables each week. Nothing I can buy from AH that I need really so can’t figure how much winning I can do with that.

Note, I am not for or against the tokens as I never got to experience how they affected Retail.

this only benefits raid loggers who dont actually play the game and just want consumables for $20

this would kill my drive to farm anything knowing i could just drop money, which would mean not having to play and then i guess this game is done for me.

very few ppl are buying gold and they forever have risk of ban or account straight up stolen over their heads.

they are not testing in china, Netease is just a greedy company that blizz has to use if they want to make a cut of profit from chinese market.

You know selling tokens isnt paypal money and is only Blizzard money? there would be no reason for a external gold farmer to use tokens as they wouldn’t make any money… They make money based on services that pay through online transactions…

Pay to win? This is happening already so the game is already dead? Someone Could pay X guild to carry through raid and give all drops to 1 person. This is done already and same with massive gold sales. So your argument is “pay to win is a great way to kill a game” well the game is already dead by that logic?

This would be a terrible idea. Do NOT implement WoW Tokens into classic. It would honestly kill the game (at least for me).

Do you think thousands of players are buying gold already in classic?

There’s a lot of BiS gear you can just buy off the AH. Tokens remove the need to actually earn a lot of gear.

Also, buying gold removes the need to earn consumables that are very hard to come by. Specifically flasks. Imagine paying real money for flasks.

No. Absolutely terrible. This would severely damage the vanilla experience.

You can’t just ignore the scale at which it is happening. We don’t have statistics on the number of players buying gold but I’d bet a few black lotus that the percentage of players buying gold would go way up if there was an official means of doing so.

Let’s not ignore that fact.

Before the toekn was implemented into Retail is was estimated to be around a few million dollars worth of business.

according to NY times the market is worth 1.8 billion dollars…nytimes.com/2007/06/17/magazine/17lootfarmers-t.html

This isnt just wow gold mind you.

Can the OP provide any evidence at all to the statement that “a great portion of people are already buying gold”? I’m not necessarily doubting him, but is there anything out there that actually shows a percentage of players who are doing this? Also, I’ll be honest, I don’t think I’ve seen a single spam or advert for gold selling on Benediction yet. I’m sure it’s just a brief Google away, but how common is gold buying at the moment?

You people act like Classic is this separate game but both are linked to your monthly subscription and I bet most of you have WoD or Legion; therefore, you have access to the token system.

It is so sad how people just want to hate on retail when most of you are tried of classic already and want TBC classic at this point.

Your right there is no statistics because you cannot control it…If only there was a way they could get that information and help the Market based on this research…

on side note for numbers here was the market for gold farming.
nytimes. com/2007/06/17/magazine/17lootfarmers-t.html. Note that its not all wow gold but if the market for illegal gold buying is over a billion there is probably a large section for World of Warcraft as its one of the biggest MMORPGS ever…

The fact that it’s an unsupported transaction and if you get scammed you’re out of luck.
