For anyone getting a late start and deciding on a class, or to anyone who is a low-level Warrior who can reroll without losing too much work, I implore you not to play Warrior.
I didn’t play a Warrior in Vanilla and have come face-first with a multitude of issues playing this class at 60. Below are a few:
-
While you can decide to tank and easily get dungeon groups, you will eventually only need to run raids where it’s nearly impossible to find anyone willing to invite you. Even with full pre-raid BiS, I can’t find a guild or a group to play with.
-
You can only be good at PvP or PvE. Arms is awful in raids (Mortal Strike takes up a valuable debuff slot), while Fury is awful in PvP. I’m sure this issue affects some other classes, but it sure as heck wasn’t a problem for me as a 60 Warlock back in Vanilla.
-
Warriors are overpopulated. I would have thought that the agony of leveling this class to 60 would have helped balance things out, but every PUG raid I join has at least 7 Warriors.
-
Taking the previous point into consideration, Warrior is by far the most gear dependent class in the game. Good luck getting gear when you have to roll against an enormous number of other Warriors for loot, even better luck trying to get into a group where you can get decent Arms gear so you can not suck at PvP.
Playing Warrior is remarkably fun, but the issues I’ve noted above are significant enough for me to quit as of tonight. Hopefully, this helps prevent someone else from facing the same tough reality I have.

You could’ve gotten all of that knowledge with a 5 min google search before leveling to 60

This. The, “Life At 60” series describes the classes pretty well.

Fury is fine in PVP if you’re dual wield.
Arms is meant for PVP.
Warrior grouping isn’t that hard to do. It’s not like playing enhance shaman, and having to heal with only off talents
You literally get your knob slobbered on for tanking anything from Ulda upwards
It’s fine.

Fury is squishy and easily kited, it’s not at all good for PvP. And you’re not going to sit on someone’s face and DPS them with white attacks so DW is pointless.

Don’t most guilds run like 9 fury warriors? Can’t imagine having to compete against 8 other people for loot, especially if you aren’t in good with the clique. Also having to farm your *%$ off outside of raids to come prepared with everything you can to stand out from the other warriors sounds like hell given how vulnerable they are in wpvp.
Glad i rolled a healer. Guilds are always looking to recruit more and warrior spots are always full.
I know what I’m doing when I hit 60 then…

Getting kited to death by mages using rank 1 frostbolt?

Didn’t read, but I leveled a warrior to 37 and threw the gloves… Druid is far easier and funnier, and so versatile.

You’re right. Nothing really new here but wanted to share. I’m willing to bet a lot of other people who rolled warriors are feeling the same way and if they go the route I have then some players are going to have a very difficult time finding a tank for their dungeons.
When? After playing a rogue up to 58 and struggling to find groups for anything, I somehow felt obligated to level a tank to try to increase the pool of meat shields a bit, was a bad call for me personally.
Leveling a rogue has been, well, enjoyable. I stab things, if I get one too many I have a few tricks up my sleeve to even things out (evasion, blade flurry, etc) If I get more than one too many I vanish. Have had a few speed bumps but even soloing a red kill quest isn’t out of the realm of possibility for the class.
Leveling a shaman has been fun as well. I kill things more slowly than my rogue does, but I always kill things, and never die. If it gets out of hand drop a few totems and get out of the area.
Leveling a warrior sucks though. I mean really, really, sucks. Especially in the beginning, when pulling ONE yellow mob two levels higher than you can mean a ghost run if you happen to miss a few heroic strikes. I could see that kind of experience turning someone away from the class or worse yet, turning a new player away from the game entirely.

Warriors can’t find priests that want to level with them? I loved when a warrior or rogue wanted to level with me. No down time. They’d never have to eat. I could adjust my play style and never have to drink.

If you’re not having fun with a game you shouldn’t play. I’ve bought games that turned out not to be fun for me. I didn’t stick it out because I already paid the money. I quit. But if you really liked wow you’d just reroll a class that’s fun for you to play. So I think it’s more than just picking a warrior.

I mean I know I would, but I’m also not set in stone on tanking, with the most viable tank being warriors.
Also OP states that warriors are overpopulated and while that might be the case tanks certainly aren’t. I find it hard to believe that he can’t find a guild or raid group that is eager to have another tank.

I prefer to heal and I’ve been hearing stories that there’s an over abundance of healers. If I find when I start leveling my priest that I’m not needed I’ll be disappointed but I like the game. I’ll make one of my other classes my main and hopefully later in the game or in bc some of those healers will drop out.
There are so many priests at 60 that you will spend hours to find groups for dungeons.

I played Warrior tank during vanilla… tanked all the dungeons and raided. I wanted to play something new this time around, so I picked a healer, since I still wanted to play something desirable with a short wait time. I thought with the over-abundance of Warriors this time around (after everyone knows how OP they are with good gear), that we would not have a tanking shortage. Boy was I wrong.
It’s frustrating having to wait hours to form a dungeon group as a healer.
Too bad tanks aren’t overpopulated.
