you have a model/design and class design that works reasonably well all around
cata/mop
then you change it, things go out of wack and theres no balance, and you change it…again… you will never have balance constantly changing things all the time. how expansion worked before was you got a few new abilities added on top of old design, and lately you just completely change everything.
in an attempt to keep the game “fresh” or interesting, you destroy and chance of balance and more and more people leave.
They need to keep the game fresh. Nostalgia is great, but if we were still using Vanilla trees and abilities in 2k19, the game would have 100 subs remaining.
The issue is that not every refresh is for the better.
I mean, how boring and stale would it be if they didn’t change anything? From Legion to BfA, we gained no new spells or talents, and people flipped out. It felt like a copy paste of Legion, just somehow got worse.
There’s changing things, and then there’s destroying things. A lot of things were destroyed going from MoP/WoD into Legion. Classes got gutted, vendors got deleted, and now idiotic PvE gear dominates the game. Change is fine when it’s done well, but I don’t think many people are happy with the way it’s changing now.
More or less, they shouldn’t change things that aren’t broken, vendors as an example.
Honestly I paid for an expansion and all I got were crap nerfs and pruning, pve content I don’t care about and I don’t even get access to the new races unless I do more mind numbing pve content. Such a ripoff.
Well its like even in legion although i wasent a fan of their class design, the classes at least ‘felt good’ once you filled out your artifact.
But in bfa classes just feel clunky, and even more incomplete than in legion. Azerite gear really fell flat on its face. Adds another barrier to entry getting the best traits (for some classes they are MUST HAVE traits too). Thats ON TOP OF an Artifact grind we already had to do. Thats also ON TOP OF trying to get all the right stats and there are next to no gear vendors.
Now add on grinding out benthic gear/heart traits… its like ffs… people dont have all the time in world ya know.
Looks great on paper to them though, they are of the notion that ‘people quit until next tier when they get geared out’ So on paper they see oh people have constant progression so they will stay subbed!!!
Honestly I think it just deters people from coming back, and tbh burns out the current players too.
Like prolly not playing like any of my alts this season for me. Sad I was really startin to get the hang of MW/WW but its pretty whatever for me now tbh. No point in playin MW/WW if i cant at least keep them competitive from a gearing standpoint in a reasonable amount of time.
PS, I hate rental traits and abilities. Like what they’ve done in bfa/legion, I grow to like something then BAM its taken away…
Why did you group these together? These had totally different systems.
They’re both the wrong answer anyway; limiting the talent tree in the name of “streamlining” started with Cata and was in full swing by MoP. Even though Cata was a fun xpac, its class changes were generally pretty awful.
Oh well you see, the problem is they used to build off their own product and continually refined and improved it up until MoP
Then they took a jack hammer to their beautiful skyscraper and destroyed the house because ???.
Then they took the ruins of the building and built upon that
So really, it’s rather unsurprising that the new building is lopsided with electrical hazards and broken pipes, you need to have a good foundation for a building to stay up.
But these dumb developers aren’t refining a product, they’re trying to redefine MMO’s to be more inline with zoomer and twitch culture and that is why the game sucks
They think they need novelty to sell expansions more than they need quality to retain subs
They’re wrong about that, provably, but far as I can see they’ve just abandoned ship. Wow is on life support while blizzard tries to get hearthstone growing unsustainably fast again and figure out how the hell the Titanfall people beat them to the punch on fortnite+overwatch
Activision blizzard make incredibly risk averse decisions and they’d rather wow slowly shrink and bleed to death than bet on a good idea that could actually reinvigorate the game
It was Vanilla -> TBC + 10 levels, +10 talent points + talents + spells. Health pools more or less doubled.
TBC -> Wotlk, +10 levels, +10 talent points + talents + spells. Health pools more or less doubled. = Pattern Established.
Cata -> +5 levels, +5 talent points, talent trees redesigned and restricted, some spells homogenized, some spells added. health pools quadrupled. Pattern broken.
MoP +5 levels, talents scrapped and redone from the ground up, some spells removed, lots of spells added, some spells baseline now locked behind talents, lots of new talents. healthpools quadrupled.
WoD -> Stat squish, etc.
They’ve been reinventing the wheel since cata tbh, and haven’t really stopped since.
I hope they change a lot next expansion. Adding in easier ways to get gear and rewards. Seems weird that they lock higher Ilvl gear behind ratings. Higher rated players don’t need better gear to win.
Should have a PvP vendor and can get all the epic pieces gradually with conquest throughout the season
