Why can't we specify what keys we need/want for mythics?

Like the title says. People say, “If you can’t get into pugs, make your own groups!” Well that’s exactly what I’ve been doing all expansion. I push my own keys instead of waiting to get in groups or being constantly rejected.

The problem is, if you’re pursing a specific key, you may never get it because when you get a new key, it’s random!!! All day, I’ve been running Academy, Nokhud, Temple, and SMBG. Just those keys. I will link my io page on my main if proof is needed.
I need Ruby and HoV to increase my io but I’ve yet to see one all week :expressionless:

Blizz, can we please have an option to pick keys? You can even put it in as a currency (valor, crafting mats…something!) It’s just very annoying not being able to get in the groups I need, yet when I push my own key, I still don’t get the keys I need to progress.

I’ve done multiple counts of Ruby in just one day. You only need to use the search bar to narrow your search down and you’ll find it no problem.

On the other side, if you’re given a high key, try it! If you don’t make it, it’ll be downgraded. All it takes is dedication. Also… DO NOT play Mythics for gear. Play it for rating. The bigger the rating you have, the higher success rate you’ll have when getting invited.

It would be cool if the key changer lady let you change the key you just got too (you can’t because if she’s there for your own key, that means your current key level is now too high)

Because you’d have people running 20 SMBG for vault rewards simply because of how easy that dungeon is

It sounds like the problem is how easy SMBG is and not the ability for people to have more agency over their own key?

People would still choose the easiest key possible, regardless of which dungeon it is.

Okay, but if there were not dungeons which were comparatively much faster and easier like Maw of Souls or SMBG, this would not happen. So perhaps they could work on balancing the dungeons more, so some dungeons don’t take twice the time of others. (AV and SMBG for example). This would be a good thing to do in general, because if a dungeon is much longer, there are more chances for the group to make mistakes and fail the whole run.

Did you miss the part in the OP where they said they couldn’t get into groups? No amount of search refining will help with that. It’s why they’re pushing their own key instead of riding the key from another player in a PUG.

The problem the OP is having is they keep getting the same dungeons for their key and not the two last dungeons they need to increase their rating.

So it’s not so much the time it takes, it’s the relative ease of the dungeon. And every expac has one or two “easy” dungeons.

Gotta remember, part of dungeon design and balance is making some so even the poorest is the poor stand a chance.

There will always be “that one”

The relative ease is very important. However, the length and the ease (success rate) of the dungeons are correlated. For example, Azure Vaults requires about 1.4x as much mob hp to go through as SMBG of the same level. It will take longer for the same group to clear AV than SMBG, on average. This means that they are more likely to have more total wipes in AV just because they are playing for longer.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Ok cool you timed this dungeon which is higher than your current key. Now, allow us to pick which key we get. It’s the least blizz could do. Random feels bad…

Random keystones encourage you to run a variety of keys, instead of just farming one.

I don’t think its a fun system choice, but that’s what it is.

HoV is a fairly short and straight forward dungeon and feels like it takes longer than both of those lol

That’s a good consideration. Hov both takes a long time and feels like it takes a long time because there is a lot of RP and backtracking during the run. So maybe they should try to have an equal amount of RP (ideally low) in all dungeons.

The system should be such that for your own keys it gives you a random dungeon, but from the ones you haven’t already done that week. Once you’ve done them all, then it reverts to full random from the entire pool of dungeons.

But at what level do you have to do them all? I for one farm specific dungeons for specific pieces of gear

Hmm not very well thought out by blizz when they put good trinkets in dungeons. Creates for situation where you get people running the same one 100 plus times. I feel like the random keys would work better if we had more control over loot… but we don’t.

You need to do them all in order to increase your rating. Higher rating makes you more attractive to groups, both joining them and when others join groups you create yourself.

That’s a clever solution which would help people get their Raider IO score up on new weeks as well as make the dungeon choice feel legitimately random. I’m for it, especially if it is presented as an option and not a default change for characters who already have both weeks of full dungeons completed. The reason why is I wouldn’t want a 100% guarantee of getting my least favorite dungeon while I’m trying to do 8 for the vault, haha. Even though the probability of not getting it is already (7/8)*(6/7)^7.

Key upgrades could offer you a random choice, but such a system wouldn’t work well right now with how monumentally undertuned CoS and SMBG are right now. Some dungeons are also incredibly difficult at high keys, such as NO, RLP, and HOV.

Right now, with the current set of nerfs in place, AV and TJS are among the more balanced dungeon experiences in keys. AA feels awkward because Crawth is incredibly difficult, mechanically, compared to everything else, and also the dungeon is prone to bugging out entirely before you can even get to him.
