I can see in some cases why jumping over hazards would not make sense, like if there was actual fire with flames up in the air. But a puddle of acid or something seems like it should be jumpable. Any idea why the mechanics don’t allow you to jump over hazards?
Some old cata mechanics you had to jump to avoid them.
I would like to see more of that added in.
i think in some cases it should be possible yet in others… idk… say a lava beam for examplle. if time correctly, maybe even /sit should be enough to get past it.
but a lava pool? toes gana get burnt. damage must occour even based on proximity.
But then we can swim in lava and not instantly die. Just a little hop over a pool should be no big deal. There are/have been other jumping mechanics the most recent is the Scalecraker keep boss you can jump over the flame waves from the bombs.
If nothing else it would just be more interesting. Right now it doesn’t matter if you jump or run through most things. But adding a possible jump would make it a little more exciting,
I mean that would work in real life but your playing a video game dont forget,
Probs because when you jump over things in game, you’re not actually jumping over them. Your character is just performing an animation that allows certain things. The character itself is still technically touching the ground. It’s only when blizz ties in certain exceptions to your mobility spells does the illusion of you jumping over an obstacle actually occur.
good point.
blizz. buff lava already
There is even an achievement in one of the WOD dungeons where you had to jump over the fire, so it can be done, they just choose not to.
Oooh yeah good point!
i think it’s fine to allow it, but making situations where it has to be done or you die can feel bad for people with latency issues.
Yes, just being able to jump over something instead of running around it, but not having to jump over it. Just making it an option. Like being able to jump over the green streams in brakenhide while running through the dungeon would be so nice.
I thought it might be something along these lines. I was thinking that the fight floor was designed in two dimensions to make the math easier to do- but it amounts to the same thing.
It must be on a per-ability basis. I’m sure there are more than just my two examples, but I know for sure:
-
In the Cataclysm dungeon “The Stonecore” there are big rock elementals that slam the ground and cause earthquakes, and if you jump and are in the air when it goes off you take no damage.
-
In the WoD dungeon “The Everbloom” one of the bosses plants a bunch of fire flowers around the arena, and then they send out circles of flame on the ground expanding outward from the flower. You can jump all the circles to take no damage.
Sure, make getting to Nefarion in Aberrus even stupider than it already is
There’s only one way to really jump over things in WoW, play a Warrior!
They did. You used to be able to sit in it indefinitely because your natural out-of-combat regen made it impossible to die.
I play regularly with a friend who mains warrior, and he gets stuck in traps on the Morchie fight multiple times every week, because leap doesn’t actually let you jump over the traps. It’s tragic.
I would like to see a boss fight just like when we were kids and you had to jump from the rocking chair to the coffee table to the sofa, because the floor was molten lava.
Last boss, Siege of Boralus
for immersion, do it.
