Why cant we have more than 2 professions on each character?

I’m really curious as to why I couldn’t learn (for example) alchemy, herbalisum, mining, and tailoring all on one character? After all, we can have 60 characters, and each character can learn 2 professions; so, what difference would it make to allow more than 2 professions each?

Back in the day i would imagine it was for bot/gold farming prevention. Leveling up took a long time and reaching those high level zones where the good profitable stuff is was a real investment.
It was like 30+ hours to get that one gather bot up and running to be really profitable and only in 2 types professions.

Nowadays, its really easy to level and the individual professions points are more a planned timegate then leveling the character or skill grinding on nodes, but i guess its also so easy to level them and have crafter alts they dont see a reason to change it.

RPG reasons, most people minds cannot be genius level with all you want

It’s also a way to increase interaction on the server, weather you like it or not, it is an MMO & not a solo player game which is not to say you cannot solo, you can, but you miss out on a lot as a solo player

Honestly i wish we could have 3, I want Mining so bad on my main but i refuse to drop engineering for teleporting anywhere i want in the world, and mains Plate so refuse to drop BS, i tend to just buy the mats needed to make stuff like ore and stuff.

I think it’s mostly just for flavour in this game.

I burnt myself on the onmicrafting journey in FFXIV so probably a blessing in disguise.

It applies pressure on players to make alts and alts = more time spent in game. Something along those lines, I am of course talking out of my bum but who knows.

I understand why it was that way in the beginning for roleplay and to increase community engagement.

20 years later…I think I’d be happier with 3 per character or possibly making all gathering professions into secondary professions instead.

It’s so easy to make alts and have all of the profession available to you anyway. I don’t see much reason to have such a strict limit. I do want the roleplay reasoning to stay, and that’s the only reason I wouldn’t remove all the limits.
