The reason you can’t buy them is because when they were first implemented, they were season exclusive and they still are. Exclusive to those that reached 2k.
While it is unfortunate you can’t buy them, there really is no good solution for it to become available again. Even if you did lock it behind 2k again, people will still get riled up because its no longer exclusive/too hard to get/too easy.
So exclusive they remain. So people don’t get mad at video games.
If you want though, you can work for future elite sets, they’re not hard to get at all.
Honestly though, if they just lock it behind duelist it’d probably inject more people in the arena scene. Get more people to do pvp for more cosmetics.
Because reasons. Blizzard won’t give pvp players vendors like they’ve been asking for years, but they will lock appearances for the .00000001% of players who got them.
Whoever runs their pvp team seems to have a terminal case of “don’t touch me, filthy casuals!”
It’s quite simple. You don’t compete for mythic raid gear.
Largely not true. Wotlk has elite apperances that will never return (2200 weapons had a different colour scheme.) and actual pvp armour was simply not a reskin. Cata wasn’t a reskin. MoP wasn’t a reskin, WoD was a reskin for all of them except s1, and even then some sets were heavily borrowing from PvE.
WoD and other expansions had completely separate armor sets created for Elite PvP.
They’ve only been recolours recently in Legion and BfA.
This is one solution. A good one, at that. Especially since they’re trying to get people to participate in War Mode and PvP (Though that seems to be failing massively).
Or, like I’d mentioned, allow them to be purchasable after two expansions.
That’s about how long you have to wait to be able to solo Mythic raids as well.
Mythic raiding isn’t the same as higher end pvp your best comparison is challenge modes limited time rewards and all that jazz. But the main reason is that elite gear is basically a trophy to say you were this good during period x. Add to it that you can’t replicate the balance of certain season where classes can face roll to 2k+ . And blitz did ask the pvp community if they wanted them returned and there was a majority no responce.
Because Blizzard likes to kowtow to snowflakes, apparently. Even when the snowflakes themselves didn’t even ask for it.
Seriously, every gaming company/studio does exclusives from time to time, but only Blizzard goes out of their way to pack their games with items that have arbitrary time limits that no one asked for.
Mage tower, PvP elite sets, challenge modes, legendary cloaks, Grand marshal pvp transmogs, etc etc.
Blizzard has a real hard on for making content only so they can hurry up and lock it away forever. Most other games just leave this stuff in as legacy content.
The problem is that pvp isn’t mythic raiding. Raids have always been designed to be completed. You’re supposed to beat the bosses. PvP isn’t fair. PvP there’s always at least one losing side. That means some people will never get the rewards they’re after (although, these days that’s pretty much moot as rewards don’t reflect participation / the ladder and are just rating milestones.)
Do I want cataclysm elite? absolutely. Do I deserve it? no. I should’ve queued up back then. It’s a mark of recognition that you competed and performed above the competition. Should they just hand out Gladiator Tabards and Mounts from past seasons too?
They’re not. Cata, MoP, And WoD s1 are unique. later wod, and Legion / bfa, are reskins. WOTLK was unique but not elite so they’re currently obtainable. That makes the majority of pvp gear unique, not the other way around. Although wotlk had elite recolours of pvp weapons for 2200 which aren’t available anymore
I’m talking about recently and moving forward. Those sets were exclusive for so long that it’s unlikely they’d have the balls to change that. Nothing from late WoD onwards is unique.
Fair enough. But this is more of a “why do you hate pvp players” blizzard problem imo. not a reason to change the reward system to include people that once again didn’t compete. I quit early legion and missed out on that beautiful black and red recolour of the HD tbc tier. Do i deserve it for being capable of breaking 2k? no.
Depends on your definition of ‘deserve’, I suppose. Remember how ridiculous turbo was in WoD? They got the elite set, but it really wasn’t particularily skilled, unless smashing your keyboard with your skull is a skill.
yeah my point was more that simply you didn’t compete, you don’t get the reward, doesn’t matter if you do something previously or afterwards that shows you could’ve.
