Why can't they recreate zones like WOTLK?

Tolkien was never dark and gritty. IF you want darkness go to Warhammer.

Wrath has some real stand out zones. Grizzly Hills is commonly thought of as one of the best, and, despite your argument is probably the most colorful zone in Wrath.

A lot of Wrath zones are just…snow, though. Or dull and grey, which, yes, on brand with the Scourge but not exactly interesting to look at. Dragonblight sure is called Dragonblight for a reason. Then there’s Zul’drak where things are very, very grey, and I don’t even remember doing many, if any quests in Storm Peaks. Just some snowy mountains.

That and, this is more of a personal taste, the 2008 drip doesn’t quite look as good as it did back in, well, 2008.

I personally don’t get the hate for DF zones. All of them are downright gorgeous and are real diverse, with the exception being the Emerald Dream zone which I can describe as ‘aggressively green’.

Two of those are pirate cities with a goblin influence. The rest are literally just goblin outposts save Gadgetzan, which of course won’t be anywhere near as big as Kezan or Undermine.

Maybe if the gobs were able to take over the entirety of Tanaris without the Sand Trolls and Wastelanders being a constant thorn. And the bugs. And literally everything in Tanaris.

I don’t know who chose ‘the middle of gigadeath desert’ as the prime location for the biggest goblin city in the game before Kezan but they’re probably not working as a city designer anymore.

Basically, they Diabloified the game. Been saying this for almost 8 years now, that since Legion, WoW just doen’t feel like WoW anymore.

It feels like some glorified version of Diablo 3 with tons of systems, design and art style just ripped from that game.

You know Tolkien wrote more than just LotR right?
Also what part of “high fantasy” is confusing you?
I also clearly said Warcraft was dark and gritty, which it was if you just look at the concept art of the three Warcraft games.

Slapstick humor was always a thing in Warcraft. Just listen to the original voice of Grom back in Warcraft 2.

Exactly, For example:
Any time Gandalf calls Peregrin Took a ninny (and half of anything else Gandalf does honestly), Tom Bombadil in general is a archetype of freedom from worldly constraints (thus why the ring doesn’t work on him, he is the personification of its antithesis, the One Ring is control and power), The Hobbits collectively, Gimli and Legolas, etc.

Concept art=/=actual games.

There’s a ton of concept art for WoW that never got introduced or was changed last minute in retail. For example, MoP was originally even more destructive than it was, with Dalaran being exploded.

Yeah I can see that.

Cata had many issues that you see today with TWW and DF zones.

my guess is just that…some prefered the game when flight was an afterthought and you spent most of your time on the ground ‘exploring’.
Personally I prefer the game with DF and TWW where its designed for flight rather than flight being a hated step child, lol.

agree.
youre strong, then you literally get weaker as you level up until you hit max level and then get to X ilvl, then start getting stronger again.
If there is an actual immersion problem with this game, THAT is it, lol. Makes zero logical sense to be growing in levels while literally getting weaker.

OP, I created a topic some time ago asking (almost) this same question:

I agree with you — I also find it really strange why the new areas are so small…

Yeah I really really miss big zone that explain so much I Swear I feel like some the zone keep getting smaller and smaller I realy wish they add more biggger zone with more stuff

Probably because youre so stuck in nostlga you cant. DF and TWW zones are way more immersive then any old zone and each new xpac gets more and more immersive but people just refuse to immerse themselvex

We had to use ground mounts for most of the WoTLK expansion, which increased the level of immersion. Being able to fly from the start of the expansion like TWW makes the content feel less immersive.

I can’t stand WotLK zones. I hate snow/water/ice themes and the questing itself bores me so much.

This isn’t the case barring Undermine, they’re actually bigger (except Undermine which is actually very cramped for all the stuff in it).

If you take a ground mount or even a normal flight mount and time most of the TWW and DF zone transversals… you take much longer than any of the past zones, showing they are in fact larger than zones used to be on average, it’s just dragon flying making it seem like they’re not.

Steampunk has been part of Warcraft since WC2, so I have no idea how you can say it doesn’t fit original Warcraft.

As for the color and aesthetic and the brightness, a lot of that has to do with their (dumb) decision to take away night/dark and the dark tones. Whole different game if you use the ink toy.

Well that’s your taste. I’ma go back to Feralas.
