Obviously the next major patch (or hotfix, god willing) needs to address leavers in solo shuffle.
I think a lot of the suggested solutions that involve upping the penalty for leavers are not good. For one, you’ve still wasted your time going 5-0 if someone leaves even if their deserter penalty/mmr penalty is made worse. Also, it’s still a tactical way to grief everyone if you’re down 0-5, so the leaver will still rage leave since they’re going to lose rating anyways (and queues are so long that they dont care about deserter penalty is nbd). Also, increasing penalties would be a big PITA for when someone does legitimately disconnect.
So I’d like to know why we couldn’t take the sting out of facing leavers by just still rewarding some rating for the rounds you did win- esp. since you likely had to sit in queue so long to get them.
(side note- leavers wouldn’t be so painful to begin with if queue times just weren’t so high)
The issue is what do you do with the hypothetical rounds.
Like if you’re 1-3 and they leave after round 4, who’s to say you couldn’t win the last 2 and go 3-3.
That’s what has to get solved. I don’t have an answer.

Well, you wouldn’t get any rating if you went 1-3 and someone left. But those who went 4-0 should get some. At least in that scenario everyone but the leaver is getting some reward: the subpar performance of the 1-3 doesn’t face any penalty and the 4-0 gets rewarded while the leaver gets penalized.
How do you prevent rating inflation in that case?
Why? you might have faced the 400 rated enhance shaman that got put in the wrong game

Rating would inflate to astronomical amounts if you let people just farm 3-0 and then someone left but it was as if you went 3-0

That’s how you fix it. Stop coming up with these weird mmr/gime things for participation. Shuffle should not be a “free” bracket.
I think if you leave once, your CR and MMR take a huge hit and you eat a 30m deserter. If you leave again within 24hrs, your CR and MMR take a huge hit and your deserter goes to 24hrs.
If you leave again after the 24hr period, within 48hrs, blizzard police kick in the door to your mom’s house and kill you

I was asking about how you prevent rating inflation for the people who have gone 4-0 and who earn rating vs. the people who have gone 1-3 and don’t lose rating. The overall result from a match like this is that everyone’s MMR went up or stayed the same except for the leaver, right? That seems like it would cause rating inflation.
Well isn’t there already rating DEFLATION if whenever you’re crushing it and going 4-0, or 5-0 and someone rage quits you get deprived of that positive record? Whereas people can selectively see the games through to the end when you’re losing?
I could be content, though, maybe making it so that you only get some rating if you were overwhelmingly positive, like 4-0 or so, and then there wouldn’t be inflation caused by random bits of rating going out for getting a leaver at 1-0 or 2-0.
You can’t make it a participation bracket, which is what you are suggesting. Also your suggestion here completely and utterly discourages any healers from qing.

You’re not wrong that it’s a problem and sucks when you’re cruising well and someone leaves.
There needs to be a solution to that. What that is I don’t know.
But again, we can’t just assume the results of hypothetical games.

5 leaves a season, use um all and your account cant q for a few months.
If you give people points for 3-0 games, 1 healer is completely owned due to a coin flip, and random people will get way higher rated then they should be.
→ The argument “it will average out” would be true, if people weren’t getting duelist in 30 rounds.
if you make leaving tank MMR, it’s going to be absolutely miserable for new players trying to climb
My real answer is if someone leaves a match, players that were positive in their rounds receive something. Like a box, and a priority queue for the next game or something. If that’s even possible. Imo, you can’t throw free rating at a 3-0 if someone left because whose to say they wouldn’t have gone 3-3? People leaving should be punished more, maybe not by losing more MMR/CR but maybe just losing the ability to queue on their account for quite awhile.
Realistically, this thing isn’t fixed until the legend bug is fixed either.
If you were on a healers team and this healer is throwing to be edgy, and you lose the first 3 rounds with him, say. Why should the players lucky enough to be on the winning side have free rating when the troll healer leaves? I think the only way to make this a less frustrating system is like a priority requeue or something.
Look, I don’t know how they calculate the final ratings but surely there is some rating reasonably owed at 4-0 or 5-0, and maybe I could concede that nobody should be able to climb going 3-0 so that shuffle isn’t a “free” bracket.

You’re suggesting changes that positively impact only dps.
I like the idea I’ve seen around that leavers have to play with each other in their own special timeout bracket. And have to complete a number of games there to get out of it and back in the non jerk bracket.
What’s the legend bug? Not trolling, I’ve really never heard of this.
