Why can't our character name be pronounced in game?

Tired of being called “champion” all the time.

If you’re worried about names being mispronounced, allow us to type in what we want to be called and test it. I know back in the day on Ventrillo I would enter “Xy-ate-uh” into this extra box to get my name pronounced properly in the text to speech to others when I would login.

I think it would just be a nice touch to have a text to speech for our names, instead of reading our character name in text while they call us champion over and over

One of my favourite things is seeing my actual character in cut scenes, so I think having names pronounced would add to the immersion.

Have you seen some people’s name?

Because the audio is being voice-acted, not read by a computer. and no they couldn’t just insert it, that would sound terrible.

Because of Alliance bias obviously, duh!

You couldn’t possibly see an issue With multiple voice actors pronouncing every name combination?

Get out of here

No thanks , Kadghar would probably annoy me

Because computer generated voices still have a problem with several letter combos.

Oh dear champion, it’s for making it easy for everybody. You know, inclusion and stuff…

Also, Dear champion, could you bring this apple pie to my aunt in the forest north of here, and save some turtles meanwhile you slaughter the deer population for 3 golds…

yeah it would be cool, until you ran across a player who decide to name himself a bunch of ascii code characters pulled from German, Spanish and French typesets. I’m sure you computer speakers would blow out because of that.

Every put a cd-rom into a CD player?

Back in the Legion prepatch I literally saw someone with the N-word as their name, only the i had some weird accent on it so it could get through the censors. And we’re talking “hard R.”

So if you were ever wondering why your character name will never be pronounced in-game, idiots like that guy are why.

I have many people pronounce my name incorrectly so I would fully expect a robot to do the same.

Ought-Tay?

Aww-tie

Dang… It’s pronounced the same as my ai and I still got it wrong

It’s ok, I’ve heard Oh-tay, Aww-dee, Aww-tea

Yours was pretty close.

Insert that one feat:

And yes, we are also fed up with trying to pronounce Tirnenn names, and we’ve been at it for thousands of years!!
