Why can't I leave my afk character on in the game?

I don’t see the point in this change that was made a few years ago.

I can’t let my character fabricate things that he is soon kicked out of the game.

The game is not like in 2013 and there are queues far from it, most servers are already dead and with the mood of the end of the patch.

Bots will simply bypass this system so it doesn’t matter.

You can safely afk for like 20 minutes. Anymore and you get the boot. I don’t think you would need more then that time in a usual gaming session, and relogging isn’t an issue as you say.

The time I need to stay in should be my problem, right? I’m paying for it

I have to stay close to the pc just to not let my character get kicked

This is like the pettiest thing to complain about tho…

Ok. I’ll bite. Why could you possibly need to afk for more than 20 minutes? Other than botting, that is. Are you admitting to botting then?

It’s meant for busy servers to give people a chance to get in.

I don’t know if it helps ease lag as well to boot afk. Either way it’s not a big deal…

Find a wall then hit Num Lock on your keyboard, you’re welcome.

Why would one want to stay logged in longer than 20 min? Some rare Hunter pets have long spawn times (8+ hours) in zones no one goes to anymore and won’t spawn without someone being in the zone the entire time. Other than that, idk.

Sounds like something if caught could get you banned.

A “few years ago” as in like 20? Pretty sure this has existed since forever, and you’re the first person to ever complain about it

Today I left my character crafting things for two hours, that’s when I asked myself why that was

Oh my gosh, I don’t know what the game would be without this impediment, it would already be completely taken over by bots (sarcasm).

Until 2013 it wasn’t like that, I can’t say when it changed.

Crafting should count as doing something though. If I want to smelt a thousand bars or make a thousand pots, I should be able to. Sadly kicks me out after a bit.

what games DONT do that nowadays except from single player games?

even fkn minecraft lol - gotta come up with tricks

im sure you can figure it out

You are complaining about something taken out of the game 8 years ago?

Seriously? Two hours? Wow…

Yes

I earn my gold with AH and craft.

Although I don’t farm around, I spend hours crafting things.

Until recently, Final Fantasy XIV didn’t kick for inactivity, due to the large number of new players this has been temporarily changed.

I play ESO for a bit of a change and its a nice relaxing game and their log out time is very short. Like maybe 5 minutes? I must time it one day. And ESO is not exactly overwhelmed with players. Well, its a megaserver so I guess that makes it a bit different but still, its probably a lot smaller than WoW or Final Fantasy.

What change? I am sure the AFK 30 minute timer has been around since Vanilla. And as much as there are not any queues now, there is still the server load by having X number of characters constantly logged in doing nothing.

Plus it looks bad, imagine going to SW or Org and seeing 1000 people, but 950 of them are AFK, that’s worse than server sharding.

In cataclysm and pandaria, I’m sure the kick system didn’t exist.
Because I left my characters logged in all the time.

There are several systems within the game to make the player stay on even against their will, such as the daily quest.

So my question is simple, why?

The game no longer has players like before.

The only relevant reason for me to see them adopting this is bad servers or high demand from players.
