This gap in the capabilities of engineers seems odd to me.
Smmoning to Stormwind… Your target sent to Molten Core.
I think we should get the ability, but tag it like some of the wormhole generators. You arrive in the zone, but mid air or on land and in which corner is ANYONE’s guess
There are definitely some real possibilities for interesting misfires.
Like you complete the summon but swap places with your target. (Technically, not a failure, since you did in fact succeed in summoning your target.)
Oh yeah, it would definitely have the standard engineering flavor to it. Maybe even a non-zero chance of being vaporized or exploded as part of the summoning process.
Wormholes with a chance of failure, that others can use.
I approve.
To be honest, Inscription had these- Scroll of Recall.
They’d teleport you do a random location if you were higher level than what it said, they were low-level teleport scrolls.
… I need this now. lol
In the same light, a wormhole to the Dark Moon Faire is overdue.
Same with the wormhole to K’aresh.
It would take away from Warlocks.
And I already know one notorious guy who will be upset of that, since their abilities have already been taken by Demon Hunters.
Eh, I don’t think that’s a big deal personally. But I do think it’d be an overall improvement versus (primarily) pug groups having to ‘bring the class, not the player’ just to have a warlock for summoning purposes. Besides, it’d be balanced by being a consumable thing that has to be crafted.
Plus, we already have jumper cables, and I don’t see that diminishing the prevalence or druids, paladins, or DKs in groups because now ‘everyone has a battle rez’.
You have to take in consideration that the Engineering Profession works very dynamically. If you want to sell your crafted toys for a profit, your best customer is the Hunter because of guns and firearm/bow attachments.
Everything else you make is either a toy that most people already have or don’t want, a potion bomb, or a repair bot that you would keep for yourself.
Not to mention Tinker sets. That, yet again, you would want to keep for yourself.
They should have this to summon groups but there’s a chance at getting an hour long unremovable debuff that decreases your primary stat by 20%.
This profession is as dead as archeology
I’m not really concerned about any of that, especially not profit. Even as a ‘crafter’, I just throw all the mats I find on the AH for someone else to make money with unless I need to make something for myself. Same would apply to this. I think it’d be a useful thing to carry around for when it’s needed, like a lot of engineering gadgets.
The engineers are busy driving the train. It’s up to someone else to sell the tickets.
I think Ion has no idea what to do with Engineers except constantly nerf and punish the craft. Things have been taken, moved, or just stop working completely in raids… I mean every other craft gets to be used in raids… but your bombs, etc… no, not allowed. Oh we gave you ones that heal other players, which shares a cooldown with your health pot.
We need a new engineering lead at Blizz
Engineers being able to summon players would be cool.
You could call it ‘Technomancy: Waygate’ or something
- I’d argue it should be done with an incredibly rare schematic drop, along with a highly prestigious long-winded list of materials to obtain and build the device. That’d be cool – Similar to Jeeves.
Albeit to not take away from Warlocks, I’d argue to give it a relatively long cooldown, like an hour.
Maybe have a requirement drop of magic, where such is infused into technology to achieve the summoning and require a reagent to use it – Similar to the good ole’ classic days
That sounds fair if it’s a permanent/toy item for engineers only, especially if it’s one that can be carried forward into future expansions like MOLL-E. or as you mentioned, Jeeves.
I’d also be totally fine with (and really only considered) it being a consumable item though that uses fewer/cheaper materials.
A better question is “why can’t engineers craft anything useful this expac”
I miss the engineers nitro-belt — before they nerfed the hell out of it.
Felt like a GOD when I used Paladins ‘Speed of light’ ability with it, back when it stacked.
Those were the days of Engineering …
Also loved when dynamite actually did: “OH SUGAR-HONEY-ICE AND TEA!” – Kinda damage.
Especially in PvP.
Now you can’t even use such in rated Battlegrounds and it always does subpar damage.
