Why can't Casters use weapons other then what is equipped

Recently started playing a caster and I can’t believe that if you use a wand/off-hand, dagger/off-hand, etc, you can’t use staves or the other way around. What the heck. Maybe I understand that a bit but that just sucks having so much in staves or off-hands and just not being able to use it. And it gets worse, not being able to transmog a wand to a dagger or mace. What??? Why? Why is caster limited to the EXACT thing they’re wearing. Warriors can transmog swords to axes, mages and the other way around. So why are casters limited to what they have equipped. At least let me transmog wands to daggers or maces because that’s just ridiculous. It is VERY annoying that I also can’t use my staves or dagger/off-hand or whatever because I equipped one weapon and didn’t pick the other.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find this all very annoying. I’d like to see how other casters thing about this.

Actually you can (it’s new). My warlock can transmog a wand to a dagger or 1h sword.

I agree that casters should have less restrictions tho.

I just want to be able to tmog daggers to one handed swords at least - cause I can’t. And be able to hide my off hand since in 80% of cases the only reason I don’t wear an putfit is because a fitting off hand does not exist in the game.

Yeah I have a really sweet staff that goes well with my Rdruid’s mog, but he currently has a dagger and off hand so he’s boned until I can get a solid staff drop from the vault.

Is this on ptr or where because I did xmog on my priest yesterday and it didn’t work.

It’s live. You can transmog a Wand into a 1H weapon (I just did it).

Hmm I’ll have to check that out, thanks!

It’s been like that since SL launch, BFA didn’t allow it.

Hmm I must’ve done something wrong because it didn’t work yesterday.

*edit
So I just checked it and I have a dagger on and can only transmog my dagger to another dagger or artifact appearance.

I was just wondering about that. I’m an old-schooler and having the ability to ‘wand down’ a mob was a huge plus for casters when they were OOM or if they were attempting to keep their threat at a minimum. So, when I attempted to equip a wand on my priest recently and realized it went into my ‘main-hand’ slot, and not an ‘off-hand’ slot allowing me to utilize what used to be the ‘Shoot’ skill, I was like, “WTF?”

This is yet another change to the game that chips away at what WoW was. We continue to lose more & more battle abilities and chances to choose gameplay styles that aren’t ‘meta’.

Honestly, I need to run to Classic now, just to see if I can equip a wand in the ‘off-hand’ slot.

Oh that’s the change, you couldn’t even mog to artifacts before.

Yes, Classic still has those rules for wands.
I personally never understood the change. It doesn’t fit any real lore, or fantasy about casters.
The only thing that I can gather was that wands were becoming a glorified stat stick, but still…
If they wanted to remove wands, they should have kept the ability to “Shoot” and just based the damage off our stats. Might not be much damage, but at least it fits caster lore.

I wish I could transmog my staves into wands, honestly.
